Descendants of Thomas SIMPERS

A Thomas Simpers appeared in Charles County, MD, by 1685, and migrated to Cecil County by the late 1600s. There are also records of a Richard Simpers in Cecil County in the late 1690s. One of these two men may have been the father of Thomas Simpers, who was married to Amy and is the known progenitor of most of the Simpers family. There are still a number of descendants living in Cecil Co., others are found in Baltimore Co.

FIRST GENERATION

1. Thomas SIMPERS was probably born about 1655, perhaps in VA (though no known records exist)

He was married to Sarah, the executrix (and presumed widow) of Henry Barnes before 1683.
Thomas Sypmers appears in the lists of debts in the inventory of the estate of Ambrose Sanderson of Calvert Co. dated 10 March 1682.
Thomas Simpers is listed above the debts in the inventory of the estate of Thomas Cosden of Calvert Co., dated 19 June 1683. A list in the administration of this estate dated 8 Oct 1685 lists Thomas Simpers as a runaway.

Thomas Simpers appears in the list of debts in the inventory of the estate of James Bordely of Calvert Co., dated 13 Oct 1685. This listing notes him as being dead (or perhaps runaway?)

Thomas Simpers (with George Stevens) was an appraiser of the estate of Mr Richard Whitton, 13 April 1693. (no county given).

Thomas Simpas is listed in debts of estate of Mr. James Harper 20 May 1696 (which includes people from Anne Arundel and Baltimore Cos.)

In addition to Thomas, there was a Richard Simpers who also appears in the 1690s era in records of Cecil Co., MD. Land records for Cecil Co on Sept 16, 1687 refer to Richard Simpers and his wife Ann, widow of the late John Cockerkill as executors of his estate. (The inventory for John Cockerell was taken 3 Jan 1686 and the administrarix was Ann Cockerell. (thus John died intestate).

From the little data known it appears probable that either Richard or Thomas was the father of Thomas Simpers who married Amy Lewis. (at least Richard Lewis' will called Thomas a son-in- law and we are guessing that Amy was his daughter) Also there is no clear data as to the relationship between Richard and Thomas Simpers/Sympers, except they both lived in Cecil Co in the early 1690s.
