In the name of God Amen. I, Jane Collins widow of Abraham Collins late
of Caroline County deceased, being weak and feeble of body but of
perfect sound mind & understanding, but calling to mind the mortality of
my body & knowing that it is appointed to all mortals once to die do
therefore make ordain publish pronounce & declare this to be my last
will and testament in form & manner following to wit, Item I give & recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God, who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian line manner at the discretion of my Executor, herein after named, as touching such little worldly property as the lord has been pleased to bless me with in this life, I give and bequeath the same in form & manner following — Item. after my just debts and funeral Expenses are all paid, I give unto Ann Lord the sum of six dollars to be paid out of my estate by the hands of my Executor., & to Peggy Grayless three dollars. Item. I give and bequeath to Margaret Kenton, wife of Solomon Kenton one half of my wearing apparel & the other half to be equally divided between Kitty Wright and Nancy Hubbard, daughter of Peter Hubbard, to be equally divided. Item. I then give to Margaret Kenton wife of Solomon Kenton one half of my whole personal estate & the other half to be divided equally among all the Children she had by her first husband Ander Lord & lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my trusty friend, Ennals Williamson my whole & Sole Executor of this my last will and testament well and truly to do Execute & perform, all things herein written according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same, in Witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 6th day of July Eighteen hundred and twenty four. Jane X (her mark) Collins Signed, sealed, published and declared by Jane Collins the above named Testatrix for her last will and testament in the presence of us, who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other, has subscribed our names s witnesses thereto. Fred’k Holbrook, James Satterfield Caroline County to wit ) The 14th October 1824 ) Then came Frederick Holbrook who offered this will for probate and made Oath on the Holy Evangels of God that the aforegoing instrument of writing is the true and whole will & testament of Jane Collins late of Caroline County deceased that hath come to his hands or possession and that he doth not know of any other of a later date. Certified by Geo. A. Smith, Regr of Wills for Caroline County Caroline County to wit ) the 14th October 1824 ) Then came Frederick Holbrook and James Satterfield the two subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament of Jane Collins late of Caroline County deceased and severally made oath on the Holy Evangels of God that they saw the testatrix therein named make her mark to and seal this will, that they heard her pronounce and declare the same to be her last will and testament that at the time of her so doing she was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to the said will in the presence and at the request of the Testatrix and in the presence of each other. Certified by Geo. A. Smith. Regr of Wills for Caroline County. Notes on Jane Collins Will: Kitty Wright is likely Kitty Collins, dau. of Mary Collins Hubbard, the wife of Peter Wright. Ann Lord is the eldest daughter of Andrew and Margaret Lord. Note that a James Satterfield witnessed the will of Abraham’s widow, Jane Collins. He could be a step-son of Samuel Collins, son of Andrew Satterfield and Deborah Stevens. The Surnames listed as witnesses or legatees of these wills are all interconnected in a number of Caroline records, such as the 1809 land commission record of Frederick Holbrook that names Abraham Collins, William Chaffinch and others.
