Have a lost ancestor
you've tried desperately to find? Let me know and I will
add his/her name to
the "Lost Ancestors" page.
ADAMS, William Keene
-
of Caroline County was my great grandfather. Supposedly his family
were horse breeders from Winston-Salem area of North Carolina. At
some point they moved to Caroline County before the Civil War. Caroline
County records show he volunteered for the Union Army. I have his
Union sabre. I think I have photos of a Gettysburg reunion encampment
that he attended when he was older. After the Civil War (I don't
know what year), he moved to Lancaster County, PA. My sister has
a photograph of him and seven other men who were the Lancaster City police
force in 1879. She also has his police whistle. At some point later
on, he moved to Muncy, IN and operated a grocery store. As far as
I know, he died in Indiana. His son, Norman Alpheus Adams, my mother's
father, was a sailor in the Spanish American war. My son, who still
lives in Lancaster County and was a submariner himself, has Norman's naval
uniform. ParkSchimp@aol.com

DILL
- I have a published biography of my great grand father that says that
his father Benjamin Dill (born circa 1783) came from Kent Co., DE to Mason
Co., KY when he was small but the biography does not mention who Benjamin’s
father was. The biography also mentions that the family moved from
Mason Co., KY to Clermont Co., OH in 1813. I have since found the
will of Solomon Dill (born circa 1755 in Kent Co., De) who died in Clermont
Co., OH in 1820 that lists this Benjamin Dill and the rest of his children.
I have not been able to find a will or other vital record that says who
were the parents this Solomon Dill (note that there are several Solomon
Dills in the Kentucky and Ohio region at that time). George D. Dill

PERMAR
- William PERMAR lived in the Tuckahoe Hundred area of Caroline County
in the 18th century at and probably before the Revolutionary War.
He died in 1779 but his son James Permar and grandson James Permar JR and
their families continued to farm in this area from 1777-1820 . All members
of this family seem to have mysteriously left the area and appear
in the 1830 census farming in Middletown Township, DELAWARE COUNTY,
PA. (Henry Permar, son of James and several family members) They remained
farming in this area into the 1870's were quite good farmers and became
the largest farm producer in Delaware County for some time. WILLIAM
PERMAR who died in 1779 had a son born later in life to a second wife.
His name was John and after the death of William Permar in 1779 this second
wife remarried and moved with sone John to Ohio where this John established
the Permar line there. All this info, can be verified
by U.S. and Maryland censuses and a family history written by a descendant
in 1911.
