Obituary for Amanda Marie Davis
Williamsport Pioneer, Nov. 26, 1920, Williamsport, Indiana.

AMANDA MARIE DAVIS

Amanda Marie Davis was born at FEDERALSBURG, MD., on November 8, 1839; departed this life at her home in Green Hill in the evening of November 16, 1920 aged 81 years and 8 days. She was united in marriage to WILLIAM H. WATKINS on December 25, 1856 [Caroline Co.]. To this marriage were born eleven children, seven girls and four boys, all of whom except two have preceded her in death.

She with her husband came to Green Hill, Warren county, Indiana, in 1861, and on November 26, 1876 he died leaving her a widow with a large family. The remarkable heroism of this estimable woman through the following years only shows the help and protection that God gives to those who trust in Him.  Her life has been without reproach, benevolent, generous and kind - a mother in the greatest sense of the word, and a true friend and neighbor.  These traits of character have built for her a monument that the elements of the world cannot displace. Her long Life and her peaceful departure is evidence of the things God has promised to a Christian. She was a Bible reader and chose her own text. For years she has made her home with her son ED. She was a member of the United Brethren Church at Green Hill.

She leaves bereft of a loving mother, two sons; WILLIAM, of Indianapolis, and ED of Green Hill, also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two brothers, FRANK DAVIS, of May's Landing, New Jersey, and JOHN WATKINS, of Springdale, Ark., one sister Mrs. JOSEPHINE LAMB, of Battle Ground [IN], several nephews and nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends. Servant of God, well done.

Thy glorious warfare's past, The battle's fought, the race is won, and thou art crowned at last.

Funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren Church in Green Hill Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W.H. Franklin, of Albion, Ind., officiating, interment following in the Davis cemetery.

FEDERALSBURG

The funeral of WILLIAM FRANKLIN DAVIS, 92, native of this county and member of a well known Peninsula family, who died Friday at the home of FRANK NEWELL, near here, where he had lived for many years was held Sunday.   Mr. DAVIS was a veteran of the Civil War, one of the few remaining G.A.R. members of this community.   His wife, who died many years ago, was Miss RACHEL HORN.   Two sons survive, NORWOOD DAVIS and WAYNE DAVIS, both living near Philadelphia. Funeral services were held from Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. R.C. Campbell, of Seaford.   Burial was in the cemetery adjacent to the church.

(My note: I have an Uncle named Norwood.  Always wondered where it came from!)
