Cary A. Hardee (1876-1958) was born in Taylor County, Florida. After some years as a school teacher, he began his legal practice in 1900 in Live Oak, Florida. Before his election to the governorship he was state's attorney of the third judicial district and speaker of the house of representatives in 1915 and 1917. He returned to Live Oak in 1925 and was active as a banker.
