I am looking for info on William Hall COMPTON, b. ca. 1769, England, d. 2-25-1821, Pensacola, FL, and his wife, Cecilia Mowbray SKINNER, born in Beaufort, SC, d. in FL. They were married ca. 1793, in Beaufort. They moved to FL approx. 1819/1820. Their son, Richard J. COMPTON, b. ca.1800, SC, d. 1838, Mobile, AL, married Orphey SAVILL on 3-1-1824, in Escambia County. Their son, Billy, was born 1825/1826 in FL, died in Enterprise, Clarke County, MS. Any further details would be much appreciated. I have very little on the wives of these men.

Looking for descendants of Pink A. EDWARDS & Mrs. Jannett (ELLIS) PORTER, married Escambia Co, FL, 24 Feb 1822 by A. Gordon; EDWARDS from Claiborne, AL; bride from Pensacola. Jannett PORTER was daughter (or granddaughter) of Evan ELLIS and Phyllis LENNON of Bladen Co, NC. Listed in Evan's will of circa 1788: daughters- Anne PORTER, Jannett. Was Pink A. EDWARDS a son of Charles EDWARDS (will dtd 6 Jan 1811, Bladen), wife Lydia? Sons mentioned in will of Charles EDWARDS: James, Charles, John. I cannot find any early EDWARDS burials in Escambia or Santa Rosa Co, FL; therefore I think Jannett and husband may have moved to his home in Claiborne, Monroe Co, AL, after marriage. However, there is an early EDWARDS burial in Bluff Springs Cemetery (aka Crary Memorial or Cottage Hill).

MAGEE

I would like to document a family story concerning William MAGEE. He moved to Pensacola about 1766, was there about 4 years, and was captured and killed by Indians in moving back to South Carolina; his family was captured but released and went back to South Carolina; he did not sell his property. I am searching for any descendents of Theile (perhaps called Pat) McGHEE, b. 1918 in Lake Charles, LA, son of Lela (Mamie) ROUSE McGhee FOSTER d. in 1965 in Pensacola, FL. He was in the Navy in WWII and married about 1942 in Houston, TX. I think there were 2 daughters born to that marriage before it ended in divorce. I think he married again, possibly in FL, and may have had children by that marriage also.

I'm trying to research the PAYNE side of my family, with which I have no remaining contacts. My grandfather was Joseph Edward PAYNE (AKA Dr. J.E. PAYNE), born July 21, 1895 (birthplace unknown), and died October 1985 in Pensacola. He owned a jewelry store in Mariana, Florida during the 1930's and 40's. He later became an optometrist and moved to Pensacola circa 1950.

His first wife was Alma HOWE, born April 3, 1893 (birthplace unknown). They married sometime prior to 1918, had two children: Alma Elaine PAYNE (my mother, born May 13, 1918 and died 1969) and Joseph Edward PAYNE, Jr., born circa 1920 and died circa 1970. He was married to Dot (Last name unknown), and they had two girls: Joyce PAYNE (born November 30, 1940), and Brenda PAYNE (born circa 1943).

Joseph Edward PAYNE's father was Samuel Lafayette PAYNE (born 1850-1870), nd he was married to Mary Catherine THOMAS (born 1850-1870) If anyone knows additional information on the PAYNE's, I would welcome hearing from you.

They had 10 children all born in Escambia Co, FL John voted in the 1st FL election of 1845 in Escambia Co. I believe his father was Abraham PRINGLE b. Oct 1776 SC d. bef 1860 in Coker's Chapel, MS. married to Mary CLARKE.

Abraham was living next door to John on the 1830 Escambia Co FL census. John married Susan OVERSTREET on 18 Jan 1851 in Escambia Co. and moved to Lauderdale, MS by 1860 where Abraham was now living. John and Lucretia were the parents of my 2nd ggm Mary Ann Lucretia PRINGLE b. 11 Jan 1835 FL. d. 19 Nov 1905 married Eli Augustus DIXON. They are both buried in Dixonville Cemetery, just outside of Brewton, Escambia Co, AL.

I believe John's brothers were Isham A. PRINGLE b. 1808 SC married Elizabeth P. KINLEY on 16 Mar 1831 Escambia Co, AL. Also William S. PRINGLE b. 6 Jan 1813 married Sarah "Sallie" MILSTEAD on 1 Oct 1835 in Escambia Co. Thomas K. PRINGLE b. 1815 SC d. in Civil War in 1864, married Ellen DREYDEN b. 1818 SC. SILCOX/TILL/

Seeking information on family of my great grandfather Jesse SILCOX, born about 1855 in north Escambia or Santa Rosa Co. area. He married Nancy Elizabeth TILL 7Aug1880 in Lowndes Co., AL and died 20 Jan1927. Jesse SILCOX is listed in the 1885 census in Escambia Co., FL. The family moved to Monroe Co., AL in the late 1890's.

Brothers and sisters of Jesse SILCOX include: Lewis or Louis SILCOX (born abt. 1858), Sidney SILCOX(born abt. 1860), Amanda SILCOX (born abt. 1863) and Betty SILCOX (born abt. 1865). Sallie(?) Silcox was listed as their mother in the 1885 census (head of household, no adult male listed).

A great aunt told me several years ago that Jesse SILCOX's parents died some time before 1900 and are buried in unmarked graves at Godwin cemetary. The 1860 Santa Rosa Co. census lists a Jesse of the right age with John SILCOX (age 65), Martha (61), William (23), Sarah (17), John (33) and Sarah (25). Anyone have any information on any of these SILCOX's?

My connection to the Pensacola area was when Capt. George N. SOWELL brought his troop of volunteers from Covington Co. Al. to muster in Pensacola, as the 29th Al. Infantry, Co. 1. I have no pictures of him, and know nothing else, except that he was a justice of the peace in Al. His widow, Nancy WIGGINS SOWELL lived out her life in Santa Rosa Co. with her inlaws, Lewis. L. and Mary SOWELL. I do not know where they are buried. I am descended from Abijah Lewis SOWELL, eldest son to Geo. and Nancy.

was told that my Grandfather, Andrew Jackson DEAN Jr.'s family had lived in the Pensacola area. His wife was Malinda, both were born around 1852. They lived in the part of Jackson/Washington Co. that became Holmes Co. near Bonifay.
