Ralph Behrens, 76 Citrus Springs
Ralph H. Behrens, 76, Citrus Springs, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 in Ocala.
He was born Jan. 29, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., to Joseph and Magdalene Behrens and he moved here 18 years ago from Hazel-wood, Mo.
Mr. Behrens was a retired aircraft mechanic for McDonnell-Douglas Corporation and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 4864 of Citrus Springs; past treasurer of the Rod & Gun Club at McDonnell-Douglas Corporation; and an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Citrus Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Doris J. Behrens of Citrus Springs; two daughters, Marsha Barnum and husband, Tom, of Atlanta, Ga., and Charlynn Callihan and husband, Arvil, of Dunnellon; one sister, Net Fleming of Florissant, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

George Carter, 54 Lancaster, Calif.
George E. Carter, son of Golda Carter of Floral City, died suddenly Dec. 27, 2003, at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, Calif.
He was born May 17, 1949 in Detroit, Mich.
He was a Vietnam War veteran and served as a communications expert. He retired in November 2003 from the Los Angeles Unified School District as a maintenance supervisor.
He was a member of the VFW in Palmdale, Calif.
His hobbies were fishing and writing music.
He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Carter.
Survivors include his mother, Golda Carter; children, Traci and Jason Carter of Palmdale, Calif.; stepdaughter, Jennifer Thomas and four step-grandchildren of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters, Faye Cook of Floral City, Clara Curry and husband, Paul, and Candace Estes of Hernando; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were in Palmdale, Calif. Interment will be private in Memorial Park, St. Petersburg.
Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, Palmdale, Calif., was in charge of arrangements.

Blanche Combellack, 97 Lecanto
Blanche Elizabeth Combellack, 97, Lecanto, died Monday evening, Jan. 12, 2004, at Brentwood Health Center in Lecanto.
She was born Feb. 22, 1906, in South Kearsarge, Mich., to the Rev. Thomas S. and Cora (Ham) Bottrell and she moved here from Benton Harbor, Mich.
Combellack worked for many years as a secretary in the office of copper mines in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Homosassa United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished organist and pianist. In 1951, the Michigan Conference of the Methodist Church named her a life member of the W.S.C.S. for her work as conference secretary of the Women's Society. She was a devoted Christian, wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. W. Ernest Combellack, June 1973, her brother, Thomas Bottrell, 1997, and son-in-law, the Rev. David I. Lutz, 1970.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Sempert and husband, Leonard, of Homosassa; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; three nephews; a niece; and a sister-in-law.

Larry Costello Sr., 74 Inverness
Lawrence (Larry) Costello Sr., 74, Inverness, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at his home under the care of his family and hospice.
He was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Rosebank, Staten Island, N.Y., to William and Margaret Costello.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He managed two teams of baseball and two teams of basketball in 1961 and 1962 for Mount Carmel St. Benedica Church. He went to Snug Harbor Little League in 1966 and was umpire, umpire chief, vice president, then president for five years from 1968 to 1973.
Mr. Costello retired after 27 years from the Board of Elections, where he was head technician for the last 10 years of employment.
He and his wife moved to Inverness in 1993.
He belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose and was a Fellowship member; the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Citrus American and Italian Club.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Domenica (Minnie Zasa) Costello; three sons, William (Bill) and wife, Coleen, of Inverness, Lawrence (Larry) Jr. and wife, Linora, of Staten Island, N.Y., and Richard and wife, Linda, of Staten Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Susan, of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gwen Dundish of Florida and Gloria Polson of Pennsylvania; a brother, Edwin Costello and wife, Caren, of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

George William DeMarrais, 92, Hernando, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, in Hernando.
Born May 12, 1911 in Hoboken, N.J., to Joseph and Margaret DeMarrais, he moved here from Ramsey, N.J., in 1973.
Mr. DeMarrais retired after 37 years from Ford Co. working as an assembly technician.
He enjoyed fishing and golf.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Theresa F. DeMarrais of Hernando; three daughters, Lorraine Ackerson of Dublin, Ga., Theresa Welsh of Sebring and Georgette S. O'Neill of Hernando; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Harry Paul Gore, 79, Yankeetown, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in Yankeetown.
He moved here in 1980 from his native Columbus, Ohio.
He was a self-employed real estate/builder.
He served in the Army Air Corps and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the New England Masonic Lodge No. 4 of Worthington, Ohio.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Music of Columbus, Ohio, and Jack Gore of Shepardton, W. Va.; sister-in-law, Frances Gore of Yankeetown; and two grandchildren.

Donetta Ruth Heeren, 57, Inverness, died suddenly at home Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004.
A native of Washington State, she was born Jan. 6, 1947. She moved to Florida two months ago from Tacoma, Wash.
She was a homemaker.
She was Protestant.

John Kirkpatrick, 81 Lecanto
John R. Kirkpatrick, 81, Crystal Oaks, Lecanto, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at Tampa General Hospital.
A native of Cumberland, Md., he was born March 25, 1922, son of John R. and Margaret (Marshall) Kirkpatrick. He moved to Lecanto 12 years ago from Lutherville, Md.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was a retired zone manager in fleet and national account sales for UniRoyal Tire Company with 25 years service. Before joining UniRoyal, he was managerial partner of Southern Sales Company in Richmond, Va.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force World War II veteran - member of the Army Air Force Band/ETO Armed Forces Network, member and former elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River, a 57 year brother of Fort Cumberland Masonic Lodge No. 211, Beauseant Commandery and Boumi Shrine Temple, Baltimore, Md., American Legion Post No. 155, Crystal River, and was the co-founder of the Nature Coast Maryland Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Manola U. Kirkpatrick of Lecanto; son, J. Bradley Kirkpatrick of Warren, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Scott and Mary Kirkpatrick.

Dianne Marie Reed, 59, Lecanto, died suddenly at home Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004.
A native of Romulus, N.Y., she was born Jan. 4, 1945, to Maximilian and Isabelle Pangretic. She moved to Citrus County five years ago from St. Petersburg.
She was a sales associate for Whalen Jewelers in Inverness.
She was Protestant.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Donald L. Reed of Lecanto.

George Warner, 83 Nottingham, Ind.
George L. Warner, 83, lifelong Nottingham Township resident who wintered in Citrus County, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Meadowvale Care Center.
He was born Sept. 17, 1921, to Leonard and Hazel (Swagart) Warner. He was a 1939 Petroleum High graduate.
Mr. Warner retired from Franklin Electric in 1986 after 21 years of service.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving from July 1944 through January 1946.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 111 for more than 50 years.
He was a past member of the Hickory Hills Golf Club and was an avid golfer and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris (Lovell) Warner, June 14, 1991.
Survivors include three sons, Richard of Cadillac, Mich., Ralph of Poneto, Ind., and Kenneth of Bluffton, Ind.; three daughters, Bonnie Pierson and husband, Ken, of Inverness, Judy Oswalt and husband, Jim, of Bluffton, Ind., and Debra Leas and husband, Phil, of Poneto, Ind.; a sister, Mary Helen Rose of Kokomo, Ind.; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Aaron Weaver, 32 Fort Bragg, N.C.
Chief Warrant Officer Aaron Andrew Weaver, U.S. Army, age 32, Fort Bragg, N.C., former Inverness resident, died in the line of duty on Jan. 8, 2004, near Fallujah, Iraq.
Born June 7, 1971 in St. Petersburg to Michael and Kelly Weaver, he grew up in Citrus County and graduated from Citrus High School in 1989.
He enlisted in the Army and completed his first tour of duty in 1996. During this tour, he was recognized for heroic efforts in Somalia, retrieving downed soldiers from a helicopter crash.
Following his discharge, he attended Central Florida Community College before re-enlisting in the Army to begin pilot training.
On Sept. 8, 2000, he married the former Nancy Gallagher from Crystal River.
He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division and deployed to Iraq in October 2003. He was killed when his helicopter was shot down near Fallujah.
Aaron enjoyed tournament bass fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Gallagher Weaver of Fort Bragg, N.C.; daughter, Savannah, of Fort Bragg, N.C.; stepson, Austin, of Fort Bragg, N.C.; father, Michael Weaver of Inverness; mother, Kelly Weaver of Clearwater; two brothers, Steven M. Weaver and Ryan B. Weaver, both in the U.S. Army; five sisters, Shannon Filicetta of Tarpon Springs, Ashley Weaver of Inverness, Regina Weaver, U.S. Air Force, Paige Weaver and Kiersten Weaver both of Inverness; and paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Weaver of Summerville, Ga.
