The Three Knight Brothers
Three brothers, Elias, George, and Britton Knight were in Alachua county by 1829. That year they were signers of a petition to the President (Andrew Jackson), asking for aid in combating Seminole Indians. Elias was in an area (Principally near the Spring Grove Post Office) in the 1830 census. Between 1833 and 1841, he signed several court documents as a Justice of the Peace. He was listed at Newnansville in the 1840 census. George voted in the Fort Clark Precinct in 1845. All three served in the Florida Volunteer Militia during the Second Seminole War. I am willing to be a source for information on these three men, although I have more information on Elias and his two children, Jane Harriet Knight (Dillon) and Elias James Knight. Both these people moved South to Armed Occupation Act Land in 1842, but the older Elias stayed in North Florida. Jayne Lipe |
