1860 Census Annotations

This is the family of Enoch T. GEIGER (b. 12 June 1819, Bryan Co., GA-d. 13 Feb 1887, Levy Co., FL) and Julia Ann BLITCH (b. c. 1827). I don't know which BLITCH family she came from. Enoch was the son of Samuel GEIGER, of Alachua Co., and his first wife (of four), Sarah TILLMAN. Both men are found in the records of both Alachua and Levy Counties.

Samuel (b. 1 June 1796, Bulloch Co., GA, - died 11 Sep 1861, Alachua Co., FL) was a son of Abraham GEIGER, SR., and Mercy (believed MARTIN) of Bryan Co., GA. After Abraham's death in 1832, some of her children (Samuel (m. TILLMAN, OSTEEN, OSTEEN, Mrs. Pearcy GRISSETT), Abraham, Jr. (m. THOMPSON), and their sister Elizabeth (m. MARTIN) removed to the Florida Territory. Mercy may have stayed in Georgia with son
David, who in 1840 had a female of her age in his household.

It is believed that Mercy was a sister of Mary MARTIN, wife of Felix GEIGER (brother of Abraham, Sr.). After Felix's death in 1827 in Wayne Co., GA, all of their children removed to FL Territory and according to family lore, Mary came with them, in the family of Felix, Jr. Her children were Jacob (m. SIMMONS), John Martin (m. JOYNER), Rachel (m. BOATRIGHT), Allen (m. RIGGS; m. BUFORD), Felix (m. SAPP), Mary (m. MARTIN), and Margaret (m. JOHNS).

John Martin GEIGER (see as GIEGER at Waldo, Alachua Co.) and Emily
JOYNER were my 2nd great-grandparents.

Thanks,
Anne H. Connell
