Success StoriesBurgess, February 1999 In using the marriage records site I found marriage dates for my Great-grandfather and mother William Minor Burgess and Tillie Manda Simpson Burgess. In going through those same listings I came across a Hiram Burgess and Katie Ball who married the same year as William and Tillie. Thinking that maybe I had found an unknown brother for William I wrote down their information too. On a trip home to Sheridan in August I went to the Courthouse to look up the marriages and glean whatever information I could from them. What a surprise to find out that Hiram was not a brother to William, but his father, marrying for the second time. I was able to add one more generation to our Burgess line and through that information have added a great-great grandmother Amanda as well as severl aunts and uncles we did not know existed. Thanks for a great and very useful page. Christina Stopka. Diltz, November 1998 I'm a member of the Diltz family whose roots have been traced back to 1730 and Hunterdon County, NJ. However the main branch that I connect to started in Iowa and really developed in Sheridan Wyoming. It was because David Alloway Diltz and his wife Susan P. Laubscher decided to follow their two son-in-laws from Mechanicsville, Iowa to homesteading Sheridan that the branch grew and with it the history of Wyoming. My first introduction to this history, where family and state are tightly woven is the book your web site has included in its content, "In Our Neck of the Woods". You will find a full page picture of David on page 116. I've been in contact with one of the surviving Diltz' from this pioneering generation, who has provided me with the stories of her childhood, growing up in Parkman, Sheridan County, Wyoming during these homestead days. "The Diltz' were know for providing the music on a Saturday night in Sheridan, grandpa on the fiddle and grandma on the piano and friends gathered around singing and dancing". The value of the Wyoming USGen Web site is that it has introduced me to two very important contacts during the past few months. In one instance, I received a new family tree branch. One gentleman wrote me and said "hello cousin" and it turns out that his family branch started when David Alloway Diltz' sister, Clarinda E. Diltz married Elias Garvin. He has documents back to the Civil War with signatures of David Alloway Diltz' father, George Diltz Sr., validating a Civil War Pension for Elias Garvin. WOW! In another case I helped a lady trace back through her mother side of the family. She wrote me just a few weeks ago and said "I am somehow related to the Diltz family. David Diltz to be exact. I viewed your query on the rootsweb, Wyoming genealogy web site, I don't have much information to share with you". Well, she hit paydirt. It turns out that she is trying to trace her genealogy through her mother's side of the family and could not get beyond her grandmother. However she had names of people and knew that David Alloway Diltz was connected somehow. After I reviewed these names and my family tree database, it turns out that what she had were the names of David's children and grandchildren. linking back to her mother's side of the family. The Wyoming USGen site is without a doubt the best site I've seen anywhere in the country. The content, links, and artwork demonstrate that you really do care about our heritage. David and his wife Susan are buried in Sheridan County, Wyoming and would be very proud of your work and contributions on the web site. Thank you from the Diltz Family.
