Sheridan County Obituaries

McCallister, Noma M. McKain

Sheridan Press, December 21, 2000

Noma M. McCallister, 89, of Sheridan died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Sheridan Manor. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are with Champion Funeral Home. Mrs. McCallister was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to James and Alma (Gaver) McKain. She grew up and graduated high school in Pennsylvania. She competed in the 1920 Olympics in Los Angeles. She married Edward McCallister Oct. 9, 1935, in Cheyenne. They lived in several places during his military career. She worked in a factor during World War II and at other government jobs in different places. Mr. McCallister died in 1976 in Ohio. She lived in several places before moving to Sheridan in 1993. She has been a member of the VFW auxiliary in Iowa. Survivors include sons Donald of Cornelius, Ore., and Edward of Brea, Calif.; a daughter, Maxine Rice of Oregon; a brother, James McKain Jr. of California; 14 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials are suggested to the Senior Citizen’s Center.
