In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Required elements of a county page included offering queries and lookups.

This project became known as KYGenWeb.

Within a few months, most of the Kentucky counties had a volunteer coordinator.  About the same time, Jeff Murphy, then coordinator of the KYGenWeb, decided to go national with the idea, and out of that grew the USGenWeb project.  The USGenWeb was born, and a short time later WorldGenWeb.  The WYGenWeb came online in 1998 with George Langston as our first State Coordinator.

Thank you for visiting WYGenWeb. We are proud to be a part of the USGenWeb project, which is an effort to organize genealogical materials on the Internet. Our goal is to provide a web site specializing in the genealogy in Wyoming with an emphasis on genealogy at the county level.

If you would like to contribute data to the database in any Wyoming county, please contact the County Coordinator shown on the county table page. If the county in which you are interested is listed as up for adoption with no coordinator, please contact the Assistant State Coordinator.
