  • Alberts, Dennis Anthony

    A funeral service for Dennis Alberts will be held at 2:00pm Friday, July 26, 2013 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Castle, Wyoming with Pastor John Hopper officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood cemetery in Newcastle. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Walker Funeral Home, Gillette, WY.
    Dennis Alberts, age 61, of Pinehaven, WY died July 20, 2013, at the Sundance Hospital in Sundance, WY.
    Dennis Anthony Alberts, son of Russell and Mary Catherine (Gross) Alberts, was born November 6, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Denny grew up in the Monroe/Marion SD area and attended a country school and Marion High School. A man of all trades, he worked in the Sioux Falls area as a carpenter, repairman, HVAC and sales in his early adult years.
    On November 29, 1975, he married Georgia Sturdevant and welcomed her three beautiful daughters into his big arms. They started their life together in Lennox, SD, and a few years later were blessed with two daughters of their own. In 1981 they moved to Newcastle, WY where Denny began a 25 year career with True Oil Company. He was rounding out his working life in sales for ESP pumps. Denny was a quiet unassuming man, but never a loner. He formed many close friendships over the years.
    Denny loved to work, whether he was getting paid or not, and play was his reward. As often as possible, all seven (and later any number of grandchildren) loaded up a camper and boat-pulling pick-up to enjoy a week or week-end in the outdoors with the family and sometimes meeting friends along the way. Denny shared his love for fishing and camping with all of them, and taught each one how to love these experiences that saw as important to a great life.
    He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and an uncle.
    The family Survivors include his wife, Georgia and children; Amy (Bryan) Martini of Sheridan, WY; Stacey (Jesse) Frank of Spearfish, SD; Sara (Steven) Hofmann of Spearfish, SD; Michelle (Ryan) Switzenberg of Sheridan, WY; and Lisa Alberts (Jason Thompson) of Moorcroft, WY. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Tyler, Zachary, Riley, Turner, Hallie, Caleb, Olivia, Carli, Jordan, Anna, Colton, Emma, and Marley; one brother, Ron (Mary) Alberts of Parkston, SD; one sister, Brenda (Steve) Major of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Donna Alberts; aunt, Caroline Gross; nephews, Chris (Kimberly) Alberts; Jason (Renee) Alberts ; Ben Major; niece, Kimberly (Travis) Lee; mother-in-law, Eleanor Sturdevant; and numerous cousins and friends. Last, but certainly not least, his beloved Labrador, Bo.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit New Hope Rehabilitation in Billings, MT, and the Pine Haven Ambulance Service in Pine Haven.   • Bailey, Ronald Everett

    Funeral Services for Ronald Everett Bailey, age 69, will be at 1pm Wednesday September 4, 2013 at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Casper, Wyoming with Pastor Dan Holden of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Full Military Honors provided by Wyoming National Guard -- Natrona County United Veterans Council with burial to follow. Visitation will be 4-6pm Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Walker Funeral Home. Ron passed away August 27, 2013 at Pioneer Manor in Gillette, Wyoming following a battle with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's.
    Ron was born on January 22, 1944 to Howard and Erma Dell Bailey in Casper, Wyoming. He grew up in Casper and Glenrock. He graduated from Glenrock High Scool in 1961 and continued his education in Laramie, Wyoming at the University of Wyoming. In 1965 he graduated with his Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration. In 1979 he graduated from the Colorado Graduate School of Banking.
    Ron served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 as Captain, including 18 months served in the Republic of Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He earned the following awards: Bronze Star, two army Commendation Medals, Senior Parachutist Wings, Jump Master qualified, and Vietnamese Parachutist Wings.
    In 1977 Ron married Robin VanDeventer. Together they had two sons Derek and Ryan. They lived in Cheyenne, until he took a job that took him to Rock Springs. In 1988 the family made the move to Gillette and made it their permanent home. He went on to be president and vice president for several banks. He retired from Security State Bank in Gillette, Wyoming in 2009 after being President for ten years.
    Ron held many offices and titles in his 69 years including: former Chairman of Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA), member of Wyoming Banker's Association Government Relations Committee, Abandoned Mines Land Board for State of Wyoming, Recipient of U S Small Business Administration's Financial Services Advocate of the Year Award, former member of Economic Development and Stabilization Board (EDSB), member of Gillette Chamber of Commerce and former chairman, among several other titles and offices.
    Ron had many interests but the one he loved the most was their mountain cabin south of Douglas. He enjoyed spending time there with his family and friends. He also enjoyed working on and restoring military vehicles, as well as working on Cushman tracksters and becoming the nation's largest parts dealer. His other interest was woodworking. Most of all he enjoyed and loved his family and felt so blessed to have two wonderful sons and daughter-in-laws and three precious grandchildren.
    Ron is survived by his wife of 36 years Robin Bailey of Gillette, Wyoming; his sons Derek (Nicole) Bailey of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Ryan (Desiree) Bailey of Gillette, Wyoming; three grandchildren Payson, Samuel and Abigail; and his cousin Bob Bailey of Casper, Wyoming.
    He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Erma Dell Bailey.
    A memorial has been established to benefit University of Wyoming College of Business and/or Gillette Rotary Club.   • Barkley, Charles Henry

    GILLETTE - A funeral service for Charles Henry Barkley, 93, will be held at 10am Wednesday, Aug 13, 2008, at the Bethlehem Community Church southwest of Gillette, with Pastors Gordon Harper and Robert Graham officiating.
    Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, the church's cemetery.
    A former resident of Gillette and Rapid City, he died Wednesday, Aug 6, 2008, at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas of natural causes.
    He was born Mar 15, 1915, in Paris, Ill, the son of Orlando and Rosa (Rhoades) Barkley.
    He came to Gillette in an immigrant car in 1918, with his parents, brothers and sisters. His parents homesteaded southwest of Gillette on the 4-J Road.
    His father built the Bethlehem Community Church in 1922, and he was an active preacher and teacher there for over 60 years.
    In 1935, he graduated from Campbell County High School and was married to his high school sweetheart, Louise McClelland, in November, 1935. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage and raised five children.
    He was proud of having planted the twin spruce trees in front of Twin Spruce Junior High School in 1934. During the 1960s, '70s and '80s, he and his sons had one of the finest herds of registered Hereford cattle in the United States. Charles loved his God, his family, and his cattle. He and Louise retired to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1992, where he was active in the Big Ben Presbyterian Church and Rimrock Church and preached occasionally.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise; and one daughter.
    Left to grieve his passing are his children, Nancy Taylor of Simsbury, Conn, Bob Barkley and his wife of San Antonio, Texas, Bill Barkley and his wife of Cheyenne, Jack Barkley and his wife of Eden Prairie, Minn, and Dan Barkley of Shakopee, Minn; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
    The family especially thanks granddaughter Diana, who has been Charles' angel the past two years as his health failed.
    Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Barkley, William Barkley, Steven Barkley, Justin Barkley, Matthew Burgess, and Scott Houdek.

  • Beck, Larry William Sr

    Larry William Beck Sr, age 82, of Rozet, Wyo, passed away August 9, 2011, at his home surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer.
    Larry was born March 1, 1929, in Gillette, Wyo, the son of Bill and Charlotte (Williams) Beck. He attended school in Rozet where he enjoyed playing basketball. As a child Larry was very proud of the fact that he got to help haul coal to the schools in the area. He was also very happy to run the family farm equipment.
    Larry married Velma Colughlin in Hardin, Mont, on December 16, 1950, and soon after enlisted in the US Army on March 7, 1951, where he proudly served as a Sgt 1st Class in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, Larry began a career in construction as a heavy equipment operator. Everyone he worked for agreed that Larry was an artist with heavy equipment. No matter the job, he handled the equipment the way an artist handles a paintbrush, completing all jobs to perfection and in record time, it was an amazing thing to watch. Larry worked building roads all over the western United States, including the present day I-90 running through Gillette. He was also proud of the work he did building airports and dams as well as his volunteer work on school football and track fields in Oregon and Nevada. In his spare time Larry enjoyed fishing, farming, and gardening. He liked animals and he also liked to cook and do carpentry, but his favorite time was spent visiting with friends and family.
    Larry is survived by his sons, Larry (Linda) Beck Jr of Reno, Nev, Corey Beck of Rozet, Wyo, A B (Rosalyn) Beck of Winnemucca, Nev; daughters, Linda (Mike) Krupeica of Gillette, Wyo; Carla (Al) Urban of Rozet, Wyo; Darla (Ben) Allison of Rozet, Wyo; sister, Glenda Cauldwell of Crestwell, Ore; half-sisters, Trudy Williamson of Oregon; Clacie Williamson of Oregon; half-brothers, Ace Williamson of Idaho, David Williamson of Oregon; and by numerous grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife Velma, his son Donald Paul Beck, his brother Dan Beck, and a half-sister Jodi Williamson.
    A graveside service for Larry will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Rozet Cemetery with Pastor Doug Rumsey of Antelope Valley Baptist Church officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion post #42. Immediately following the service a dinner and time of fellowship will be held at Ruff's Bar in Rozet. A visitation will be held Monday, August 15, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.


  • Beck, Velma June Coughlin

    Velma June Beck was born the daughter of Chester Carl and Olga Jaunita (Ward) Coughlin on April 17, 1927 in Mills, Wyoming, where she was reared and educated. On December 16, 1950, she married Larry William Beck Sr in Hardin, Montana. To this union seven children were born. Velma spent her life caring for her family and her home, doting on those she loved. She was a person who enjoyed her life to the fullest. She loved to visit with family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with her animals. She was a great cook and loved being in the outdoors, especially when she was gardening.
    Velma is survived by her husband, Larry Beck of Gillette, Wyoming; her three sons: Larry Beck Jr of Sparks, Nevada; A B Beck of Winnemucca, Nevada; Corey Beck of Rozet, Wyoming; her three daughters: Darla Beck of Rozet, Wyoming and Linda Leroy and Carla Urban, both of Gillette, Wyoming, one brother Harry Lee Thompson of Kansas; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Donald Paul Beck; and one sister Wanda Mae Hills.


  • Brothers, Westley Eugene Sr

    Memorial Services for Westley Eugene Brothers was held at 10:00am, Friday July 19, 2013 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor George Moore of the First Presbyterian Church and Pastor Bill Morel of Family Life Church officiating.
    Westley Eugene Brothers Sr, age 78, of Gillette, Wyoming went home with the lord on July 15, 2013 surrounded by his family. Wes was born on August 18, 1934 in Kimball, Nebraska to Floyd and Hilda (Pieron) Brothers. He was raised and educated in Dix, Nebraska and graduated from Dix High School in 1953. On April 18, 1955 Wes married the love of his life Sharon Ann Teare, together they raised a family of seven. A hard working man, Wes framed and worked for Arco Oil and Gas of which he retired after 27 years. He enjoyed many hobbies which included restoring cub cadet tractors, wood working, and spending time with friends, family and his favorite dog Chester. Wes is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon; children: Becky Brothers of Gillette, WY; Mark Brothers of Rock Springs, WY; Laurie (Terrell) Shaw of Potter, NE; Roxann Bunhoff of Bertrand, NE; Wendy Brothers of Fort Collins, CO; Greg (Christy) Brothers of Gillette, WY; his sister Sharon Lee (Ralph) Anderson of Kearney, NE; fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and Thelma Brothers of Kimball, NE.
    He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Kathryn Killbam, and his son Gene.

  • Brown, Donald LaVern Jr

    Donald LaVern Brown Jr 69, of Recluse, WY, died August 20, 2013 in Billings, Mont, after a short battle with cancer.
    Donnie was born September 17, 1943 in Gillette, WY to Donald L Brown Sr and Vera May (Stephenson) Brown. He was a lifelong resident of Northern Campbell County graduating from Campbell County High School in May of 1962.
    During and after high school he worked for the Wagonsen Ranch and Tody McMann up until he was drafted into the U. Army on March 23, 1965. He was deployed to Heilbronn, Germany in 1965 as a tank mechanic. He returned to Gillette in March, 1967, with an honorable discharge from the US Army. He then went to work in the oil field for Jensen Well Service as a laborer working his way up to rig operator. In 1968 he went to work for Permian Corporation as a gauger in the oil field, becoming their District Manager. He worked for Permian for ten years before going into partnership in 1978 with Fred Oedekoven in the oil field service business. In 1999 he acquired the home place and later added the Beagle/McManamen place to it and embarked on ranching and oil field service up until the time of his death.
    On March 18, 1972, he married Betty June Foster and to this union Donnie brought sons Mike and Paul and Betty brought her son Billy into this marriage.
    Donnie was an avid fisherman; he spent his childhood fishing with his Granddad and Dad. He liked to go fishing in the mountains up until he bought his first boat and then Lake DeSmet was the only lake to fish. When he was not out on the lake fishing he watched the fisherman from the comfort of the deck of his house at the lake. Donnie enjoyed going to the NFR, this would have been his 28th year in a row to attend.
    Donnie was preceded in death in by his grandparents Louis (Pop) and Grace Stephenson and Edward I and Bertha Brown, father Donald L Brown Sr, nephew Gary Bell, sister-in-law Jonni K Brown and nephew Joe D Brown.
    He is survived by his wife Betty of 41 years, sons Mike Brown (Sheri Smith) of Gillette, WY, Billy Brown of Gillette, WY, Paul (Stacey) Brown of Weston, WY, three grandchildren Rayne Brown, Darin Brown and Tucker Brown of Weston, WY, his mother Vera Brown of Recluse, WY, one sister Joyce (Albert) Bell of Great Falls, MT, one brother Rex (Kathy) Brown of Recluse, WY, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 10:00am, at the Cowboy Church on Echeta Road with burial to follow at Mt Pisgah Cemetery. Lunch to follow at the American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm, Monday, August 26, 2013 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.

  • Clifford, Bill

    Bill Clifford was born in 1921 in Hugo Colorado. He was the first of six children with three brothers and two sisters. After enrolling at the University of Wyoming he enlisted in the Army Air corps where he served in China as the youngest airbase commander in World War II. After the war he graduated from the University of Wyoming as a Mechanical Engineer, leading to his career in the oil industry. He later married Dorothy Gilbertz and they had two sons. Bill and his family then spent eleven years living overseas in Libya and Colombia before returning to the United States.
    Bill enjoyed life in Casper Wyoming, participating in local politics, flying for the Civil Air Patrol and driving his classic cars.
    He was a man who lived a long and full life, eager to find new adventures do things his way.
    Bill was preceded in death by his his wife Dorothy.
    He is survived by his two sons.


  • Cody, James Michael

    Mass of Christine Burial for James Cody will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Wright, Wyoming with Father Cliff Jacobson officiating. Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery.
    James Cody, age 52, of Wright, Wyoming died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Teton County, Wyoming.
    James Michael Cody was youngest of three children born to Paul Sr and Antonia Cody on September 25, 1959 in Dumas, Texas. Developing his work ethic at an early age James was a young entrepreneur opening his first lawn mowing business at age 10. He was a successful business man and earned enough money to purchase his first vehicle, a Go-Cart. This was the start of his love of fast cars and his career as a mechanic.
    Growing up he participated in various school sports, including baseball, basketball, football and even earning State Championship honors in wrestling. While living in Houston, Texas James met Cynthia Joseph, they were married and had three children, Jeremy, Amy, and Jamie. His love of small town life brought his young family to Wright, Wyoming where he quickly became a part of the community coaching youth basketball, baseball, and wrestling. He commuted to Gillette for over 20 years working for Kissack Water and Oil. Needing a change in his life he decided to work closer to home and took a job at Jacob's Ranch (now Thunder Basin Coal Company), working as a shovel operator. After being single for many years, it was here that he met Peggy, who quickly became a very important person in his life.
    While at Thunder Basin Coal he also thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Safety Mine and Rescue Team (SMART). James always loved hunting and fishing in the great outdoors, a passion he shared with his children and later his grandchildren. The Fall colors brought his annual hunting trip, a time spent with his son, brother, brother-in-law and nephews. He was also looking forward to spending many years hunting with his grandchildren. Spring green brought out the Harley and the thrill of the open road. James' final days were spent riding through Yellowstone National Park with his son Jeremy.
    Sadly, James' life was taken all too soon, when another vehicle crossed the yellow line. He will be remembered for his love of all-things John Wayne, his toothpick, his care-free personality, his way with children, his love of the outdoors and mostly, his heart of gold. He was a well-loved and well-respected man and James will be greatly missed.
    James was preceded in death by his niece, Shawn Ann, his father Paul Sr, and his brother Johnny.


  • Cosner, Iola Mae Price

    Funeral services for Iola Mae Cosner will be at 1pm Friday, Feb 15, 2013, at St Matthew's Catholic Church with the Rev Raymond Canete officiating.
    Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6pm Thursday, Feb 14, 2013, at Walker Funeral Home with a vigil prayer service at 6pm and from 10am to noon Friday, Feb 15, 2013.
    Iola Mae Cosner, 86, of Wright, Wyo, passed away on Monday, Feb 11, 2013, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home.
    Iola was born on Dec 4, 1926, in Arcadia, Neb, to John Commodore Price and Goldie Edna Price. They lived on a farm and at 18 months of age, she contracted meningitis, which resulted in her becoming deaf. When Iola was 12 years old she was enrolled in the Nebraska School for the Deaf in Omaha, Neb, where she eventually met Dean Cosner. Upon graduation, Dean brought Iola to Wyoming. They were married on Sept 3, 1950, settling on the Cosner Sheep Ranch south of Wright. Together they raised four sons.
    Dean and Iola were great supporters of the 4-H youth program in Campbell County and were instrumental in forming the Deaf Association of Wyoming. Together they enjoyed traveling, camping, attending the Wyoming State Fair annually and visiting with all their many friends across the nation.
    One of their favorite camping groups was the Wyoming Talking "N" Flying Hands Camping Club. Iola enjoyed living on the ranch, she was a founding member of the Thunder Basin Belles homemakers club. She spent quality time doing specialty embroidery, going to craft fairs and trying her hand at different craft projects. She enjoyed playing Bingo at Pioneer Manor.
    Iola was adept at reading lips and loved to visit with people; always willing to teach sign language to anyone who was interested in learning. Iola worked at the Gillette News Record while her boys attended high school in Gillette. She retired in 1984 and remained on the ranch until 2006 at which time she moved into the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette.
    Iola is survived by her four sons and four grandchildren, Barney of Riverton, Wyo, and (Patrice) of Allen, Texas, and their son, Zackery; Danny (Carleen) of Buffalo, Wyo; Marv (Thelma) of Wright, his daughters, Michelle and Candace and John (Maggie) their daughter Anna of Gillette, Wyo; two sisters, Louise Cornelius of Grant, Neb and Vivian (Vickie) Hayden of Hayward, Calif; and two brothers: Ervin Price of San Leandro, Calif, and Robert Slocum of Shelton, Neb; two brothers–in-law, Jim Cosner (Bernice) of Akron, Colo, and Ted Cosner (Dianna) of Wright, Wyo; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dean, brother, Carlos Price of Bonita, Calif, and sister, Edna Walz of Ogallala, Neb.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials in Iola's name have been set up for educational sign language materials or the Wyoming State Fair Legacy Tree program.   • Cotton, Betty Marie Weischedel

    Memorial services for Betty Cotton will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, July 9, 2010 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bill Morel of the Family Life Church officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the funeral home with burial to take place at the Recluse Cemetery at 3:00pm.
    Betty Cotton, age 89, a lifelong Campbell County resident and rancher passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of natural causes. A private cremation service has taken place.
    Betty Marie Cotton was born on March 2, 1921 the third daughter of Raymond and Ada (Adams) Weischedel on the Weischedel Ranch north of Recluse, Wyoming. She attended the Three Bar and Box Springs rural schools. Betty attended Campbell County High School in Gillette and her father built a two-room cabin that was near where the City Pool is now so she and her siblings could go to high school.
    Betty graduated with the class of 1938. She obtained her Normal training certificate and after attending summer school at the University of Wyoming received her degree in education.
    She taught in rural schools for forty-five years. For Betty it was not all teaching, they had the responsibility of building fires and keeping the schoolhouse clean. Betty never wanted to teach in the city, she liked the rural communities. She taught in northern Campbell County, some in Montana, and two years in Wright while it was booming.
    Much of the time she taught at Recluse and Little Powder schools. After teaching school for forty five years and having taught four generations of some Campbell County residents, Betty retired in 1988.
    During WWII Betty took one year off to help with the war effort. She moved to Cheyenne and helped build airplanes, her sisters Erma and Carol had also contributed and they resided together in Cheyenne.
    Betty met Jack Cotton, and the couple were married on November 11, 1955 in Miles City, Montana. Betty enjoyed being self sufficient living so far away from town.
    She resided in Recluse until she moved to Gillette's Stocktrail Apts in 1997, after Jack had passed away. Betty remained active in Master Gardeners, and the Pleasant Hour Ladies Club. She was a 4H leader for numerous years and superintendant for the garden section of the county fair.
    Betty was known throughout the community for her large vegetable garden and sold her produce at the farmer's market where people would stand in line for her homemade pies.
    Betty served on the board of directors for the Senior Center and remained active playing cards and Bingo up until the time of her death. She enjoyed her time spent with her neighbors at the Stocktrail Apts.
    Betty is survived by her two sons: Jack (Jolene) Cotton of Recluse, Wyoming and Jerry (Darla) Cotton of Gillette, Wyoming; her daughter, Candy (Dan) Mooney of Gillette, Wyoming; one brother, Ted Weischedel of Recluse, Wyoming; two sisters: Carol Schulz of Denver, Colorado and Erma Rumph of Biddle, Montana; four grandchildren: Jeff Mooney, Amber Grubb, Velamie Maher, Kyle Cotton, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack and three brothers: Richard, George "Jake", and Harold "Toot" Weischedel.

    CHANUTE - Helen E Crose, 94, formerly of rural Galesburg, died at 5:25am Wednesday, Nov 30, 2005, at Chanute Health Care Center. She was in failing health. She was born March 23, 1911, at Huron, SD, to William Tecumpseh and Isabelle (Bloodgood) Sprague. She was raised in Huron and attended school there. She married the Rev Boyd B Crose on May 14, 1943, in Thorp, SD. He was a minister and teacher at various Indian reservations and the couple lived in those communities. He preceded her in death on Nov 8, 1985. After her husband's death she moved to Galesburg in 1987. She was a member of Galesburg Methodist Church. She was also a member of United Methodist Women and a former member of Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, painting and writing. Survivors include a son, Kendel Crose of Cheyenne, Wyo; three daughters, Martawn Byers of Bellevue, Neb, Ricki Barbe of Recluse, Wyo, and Cindy Hager of rural Thayer; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Sprague; a sister, Gean Wehtric; and a grandson, Joshua Barbe. The service will be at 10:30am Monday at Galesburg Methodist Church with the Rev Ralph Peters officiating. Burial will be later at Recluse (Wyo) Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4pm Sunday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home.     Mrs May Doane, 64, well known Moorcroft woman, passed away on Sunday, February 7th, at Hastings, Nebraska, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will be held today at two o'clock from the Presbyterian church in Moorcroft, with the Rev C H Shanklin of Gillette officiating. Interment will be made in the Little Iowa cemetery north of Rozet. Surviving members of the family include a daughter, Mrs Harold Lenz, of Hastings, Nebraska, two sons, Stewart Ensign of Moorcroft and Leonard Doane of California, and other relatives.

    Cloma H Evans Donner, 77, of Upton died Wednesday, Sept 11, 2013, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.
    She was born Jan 3, 1936, in Sundance, to Albert and Eva Evans. As a young girl she lived on a ranch near Oshoto, and received her education in country schools, Moorcroft and received her diploma from Campbell County High School.
    On May 16, 1952, she married the love of her life, Gary H Donner. They shared 61 wonderful years together. They lived in Moorcroft, Vanderhoof, BC, Canada, Ten Sleep, and then came to retire in Upton.
    She loved life and most of all spending time with her family. She was known throughout the communities for her pie making and hospitality. She loved the outdoors, yard work, and tending to her flowers. She enjoyed sewing, reading, spoiling grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She touched many hearts with her letters and occasional special poems.
    She is survived by her husband, Gary Donner; daughters, Linda Hopf of Cuero, Texas, Tricia Place of Nashville, Tenn; sons, Gary D of Newberry Fla, Dwight of Upton, Weston of Upton; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Evonne Schuricht; brother, Merrill Evans.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a special grandson.

    Arlene was born October 29, 1929 in Gillette, Wyoming to Harlie E and Leona H (Schlautmann) Cosner. She attended schools in Campbell County and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1949. Arlene married Darrell J Edwards in 1951 on June 14 in Gillette. They had three daughters and six sons. She enjoyed ranching, gardening, crafts, crocheting, quilting, and reading.
    Arlene is survived by her children: Darrell "Joedy" J Edwards II, Roy H Edwards (Glenda), Glenn "Bob" R Edwards (Jean), Dennis L Edwards (Marie), Donna Packard (Denton), Orin R Edwards, and Marc L Edwards all of Gillette, Wyoming, Anna M Hanson (Bruce) of Riverton, Wyoming, Reana M Suedekum (Matt) of Covington, Virginia; two brothers: Ted R Cosner (Dianna) of Gillette, Wyoming and James W Cosner (Bernice) of Akron, Colorado; and Iola Cosner of Gillette Wyoming; Arlene had many grandchildren and great grandchildren: Gail & Leslie Edwards and their 3 children, Sarah & Ryan Warne and their 2 children; Mitch Edwards, Muriah Smith and 1 child, Mason & Renee Edwards; Craig & Sarah Edwards and their 2 children, Corey Edwards, Carey & Ryan Allen and 1 child; Shaun, Wendy, Dustin & Alicia Sneeden and their 2 children, Brooke & Bryce Foley and 2 children, Jenna, and Carla Sneeden; Angela & David Hartley and their 5 children and 2 grandchildren; Jeremy & Amy Hanson and their 1 child with one on the way, Jade Graham and her 2 children, Jerica Hanson and 1 child; Blaine and Brooke Suedekum.     Barry Milten Gray was born June 24, 1983 in Newcastle, Wyoming but was raised in Laramie, Wyoming. After high school, Barry traveled around the country. In 2009, Barry started working in the oil fields as a rig hand and he fell in love with his career. Barry was a very energetic and outgoing young man. He was always willing to help anyone in any way he could, even if this meant him going without. Barry had a heart of gold. He was a loyal and trust worthy friend. He always knew how to lighten the mood make you smile. Barry always believed in living life to the fullest and having fun. He was known for his infectious smile, his wonderful laugh and compassion and love for all of the people in his life. Barry was very happy when he spent time with his four nephews. Barry had many close friends, Brian Goodwin, Steven Conzelman, Hans Hellar, Steve Everts, Sean Trumble and Abe Montez.

    Delano Gullickson age 77, passed away August 24, 2011 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital from complications of cancer surgery.
    Delano Rodney Gullickson was born on January 24, 1934 the son of Elmer and Alice (Wennerstrand) Gullickson in Evansville County, Minnesota. He spent his childhood on a farm in Minnesota during the depression, it was a home filled with love, laughter and hard work. Later the family moved to Fergus Falls, Minn where he followed his Dad in the construction business eventually forming his own company for several years.
    Delano was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 where he served in the 101St Airborne Rangers.
    After an injury following a jump, he spent the rest of his service as an escort driver in President Eisenhower's motorcade at the summer white house. Delano was very proud of his army service, after being honorably discharged he returned to the construction business.
    He married Dorothy Andert June 2, 1962, his love for the outdoors led Delano and his wife Dorothy to buy a small farm outside of Elizabeth, Minn. The children attended a little school in Carlisle, Minn. They later sold the farm and moved to Talley, ND where he worked in farming and the oilfield. After three years they moved to Rozet, Wyo where Delano again worked in the oil field and construction briefly.
    He was then employed by Francis Thar on the Thar Ranch where he lived the rest of his life.
    Delano was an avid outdoorsman, he loved duck hunting and trapping, starting with gophers at the age of five and moving up to larger animals as he grew older. He was happiest when he was in the great outdoors. Later in life he became interested in Native American culture and enjoyed looking for artifacts such as arrowheads and tools. He also wrote a book about Alaska titled KIKI.
    Delano made and patented several toys including one he proudly called Dingbat, based on a toy an uncle had made for him as a child.
    Delano is survived by his wife Dorothy of Rozet, Wyo; four children, Trevor, Sonja, Lew,(Linda) Gullickson of Rozet, Wyo; Kenny Gullickson of Haubstadt, Ind; grandchildren, Kyrie and Casey of Rozet, Wyo; Chadd and Shane of Haubstadt, Ind; sister, Elaine (Bill) Boll; brothers, Jerry (Delaine) Gullickson; Dennis (Sandy) Gullickson; Daryl (Cheryl) Gullickson; as well as manynephews and nieces.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Geraldine, Lila, Vianne and LaVonne.


  • Gustafson, John A

    John A Gustafson was born on September 25, 1926 in Gillette, Wyoming, the son of Alfred and Rose (Williams) Gustafson. He attended country school west of Gillette and Campbell County High School. After his schooling he worked for a seismograph crew locally and in Oklahoma. In 1950 he was drafted into the Army, and honorably discharged on September 19, 1952, and on September 20, 1952 married Ruth Ingle in Indianapolis, Indiana. After the Army he went to work for Western Electric in Indianapolis, Indiana to be a tool and die maker. In 1959 he went to work for IBM in New York and New Jersey. After retiring in 1989 from IBM John and Ruth moved to Minnesota and later returning to Gillette, WY where he worked for Wackenhut and Pinkerton Security providing security for local mines.
    John loved being outside hunting, fishing, and taking drives in the country with Ruth. He also loved to spend time with family, for whom will miss him dearly.
    He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Ruth; one son, Drew and his wife, Mardy Jo of Burlington, CO; one sister, Joan Shannon of Upton, WY; two grandsons: Brandon of Burlington, CO, and John Austin of Ft Collins, CO; one granddaughter, Morgan Robinson of Ft Collins, CO; one great-granddaughter, Annie Robinson of Ft Collins, CO, and many nieces and nephews.
    John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Herb and Hank; one sister, Carol Dickinson; one grandson, Jason Gustafson.

    Ruth Ester Gustafson, age 89, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
    Ruth Ester Gustafson was born July 10, 1921, to Dencil and Mae (Brown) McDonald in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ruth married John A Gustafson in September 1952. They lived in Minnesota for several years where Ruth worked at as a bookkeeper at a Clockwork's store in Minneapolis. Ruth and John moved to Gillette, WY in 1974.
    Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star and the Moose Lodge, where she enjoyed helping serve Thanksgiving dinner. She liked to crochet and spent many hours making baby afghans, and potholders. Ruth loved to read and do crossword puzzles, cooking for friends and family, and shopping. She really enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and never missed a chance to take a trip to Deadwood, SD.
    Ruth is survived by her son John Drew (Mardy Jo) Gustafson of Burlington, CO; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; brother, Paul McDonald; and grandson, Jason Gustafson.
    A memorial has been established in Ruth's name to benefit The American Cancer Society.

    Betty is survived by her husband Fred Hazlett of Hemphill, his son Mike Hazlett and his wife Deb of Wright, WY, grandchildren Julie and Krissy, great grandchildren Autumn and Kailee, his nieces Debbie, Rhonda, Donna and Lori. She was preceded in death by her son Randy Hazlett.

    Randy Joe Hazlett was born on September 12, 1958, the son of Fred and Betty (Jordan) Hazlett in Springfield, Ohio, where he was raised and educated. After graduating high school, he lived in Kaycee, Wyoming where he worked on an oil rig. He also spent some time in the Dallas, Texas area. He then moved to Gillette in 1999 to work in the oilfields. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends.
    Mr Hazlett is survived by his parents, Fred and Betty Hazlett of Hemphill, Texas; one brother: Mike Hazlett and sister-in-law, Deb, of Wright, Wyoming; two nieces: Julie Hazlett of Casper, Wyoming and Krissy Langston of Eugene, Oregon; two uncles: Dean Hazlett of Buffalo, Wyoming and John Jordan of Dayton, Ohio and several cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one cousin, Mark Hazlett of Urbana, Ohio.

    Darrell L Heptner, age 81, of Rozet, WY passed away at his home on August 1, 2014.
    Darrell Lelan Heptner was born May 22, 1933 in Rozet, WY to Oscar H and Dorothy C (Whisler) Heptner. He was raised on the family ranch in Rozet, WY. Darrell attended Rozet and Moorcroft schools where he was an active basketball player. He graduated from Moorcroft High School in 1952 and immediately enlisted in the U S Navy where he served from 1952 to 1956. Darrell served on the USS Essex, an aircraft carrier, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his discharge he returned to Rozet, WY to work on the family ranch.
    In 1956 Darrell married Barbara Joy Edmison and to this union two daughters was born; Mary Catherine (Mary Kay) and Karri Dee (Deede). The couple later divorced. In 1966 he married Audrey Jean (Robing) Ridenour. She had a daughter Corina Sue, whom Darrell later adopted. They were married for 42 years until her passing.
    Darrell continued to work on the family ranch and also was a control operator at Wyodak Power Plant. He later retired and became a rancher fulltime.
    In 2010, Patricia Grace came into his life. She brought his smile back that many had missed. Patricia had four children Don, Mike, Andrea and Adrienne.
    Darrell was a proud member of the American Legion Post 42, Moose Lodge, VFW, and The Elks. Audrey and Darrell were also members of the Levi and Lace Square Dance Club for several years.
    He was an avid bowler and spent many years on a league in Moorcroft.
    His friends and family will all remember his sense of humor and kindness. They all knew that they could count on him for a fun party and he did participate in many of these. He will be greatly missed by all.
    Darrell is survived by his daughters Mary Kay (John) Jones of Rozet, WY; Deede Isham of Vernon, CT and Corina Allen of Gillette, WY; his loving companion Patricia Grace and her kids Mike (Billie) Whisler of Rozet, WY, Don (Denise) Whisler of Lewistown, MT, Andrea (Chad) Whisler of Casper, Wy; Adrienne Whisler of Las Vegas, NV; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was sad he was not going meet his new great grandson that had not been born yet. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
    Proceeded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 42 years Audrey Robing.

    Leslie Hildebrand, age 88, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
    Leslie (Les) Kaye Hildebrand was born on July 1, 1925 in Fulton, South Dakota to Claude and Margaret (Parnell) Hildebrand.
    In March of 1946, Les volunteered with United States Army to proudly serve his country where he spent time in Japan with the occupational forces. After his military service, Les worked highway road construction including interstates 90, 29, and 94. In 1976, Les moved to Gillette, Wyoming. He then went to work for Exxon in January of 1977 as an equipment operator and then became a supervisor until retiring in 1986. During hunting season he worked for Mankin Wild Life as a guide.
    On February 10, 1990, Les married Jeanette Lorraine (Tobin) Wagner in Gillette, Wyoming. In addition to being a true friend and loved one to so many, Les was a patriot, an avid trap shooter and a hunter. Les was inducted in to the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in 1992. Les was an active member of the American Legion Post #42, Gillette Gun Club, and Elks Lodge in Gillette, Wyoming.
    He leaves behind one surviving sister; Marguerite Riiff of Longview, Washington; three stepsons; Bill (Sandy) Wagner of Brandon, South Dakota; Ken (Vicki) Wagner of Gillette, Wyoming; and Monte (Susie) Wagner of Casper, Wyoming; 10 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren.
    He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, brothers: John, Jim, Ed, Archie, Vern, Linton, Duane, and Keith; sisters: Elsie, Ella, Maurine, and Doris, and step-daughter: Marlene Wagner.

    Doug Hillius passed away August 23, 2013 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital from complications from an illness.
    Doug was born to Doris and Dwayne Hillius on January 1, 1961 in Deadwood, South Dakota. He lived in Deadwood until he was 9 years old. He lived in Caper and Newcastle and moved to Gillette in 1973 where he attended and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1979. After graduation he began working for road and bridge, over the years he worked for several other companies including various restaurants. Doug also was a construction worker and maintenance employee throughout his life. In May 1984 Doug married Linda K Lower, together they had two sons Douglas Wayne and Justin Ray, and they later divorced. On April 17, 1997 he married Cheryl St Clair in Akron, Colorado and together they started a family with a daughter Shantell. Doug enjoyed watching football, wrestling and racecars. He enjoyed spending time playing cards, dice, darts and horseshoes. Doug was a hard worker and was able to always put a smile on your face when you saw him. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
    Doug is survived by his wife Cheryl Hillius; his sons Douglas Hillius of Sheridan, WY, Justin (Hannah) Hillius of Gillette, WY, Jonathan Vakoc of Gillette, Wy; his daughter Shantell Hillius of Gillette, WY, his father Dwayne Hillius of Sundance, Wy; his brothers Denis Hillius and Donald Hillius; his sister Dian Mudge.

    Eddie (Ed) Sam Howe was born on Jun 10, 1947 in Lovell, WY he was born to Ernest Howe and Shirley Howe. He grew up in Deavver, WY, he attended Deaver-Frannie High School and received his high school diploma. He continued on to Denver Automotive Institute receiving a master mechanics certificate in 1966. After graduation he served in the Air Force. He was honorably discharged. Then he married the love of his life, Judie Krenning on May 28, 1971 at First Presbyterian Church in Cody, Wyoming. To this union, they added three sons, which were the light of his eye. He began working at the City of Cody. They moved to Gillette in 1981, where he worked in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Eddie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in the yard. He was a proud supporter of the Camels and Pronghorns. You could count on Ed for a new joke or story every time you saw him. He loved being with his family -- especially his grandsons, Patrick and Steele. Constant and close companions of Eddie's, were their puppies Cooper, and Jasmine. Eddie had a huge heart and never met a stranger.
    Eddie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judie; his step-mother Julie Howe, his sons Jefferey (Jami) Howe of Gillette, Wyoming, Christopher (Melissa) Howe of Orlando, Florida, Kyle (Sommer) Howe of Boston, Massachusetts, his sisters Janeen (Sam) Sefren of Arizona, Saundra (Curt) Martin of Mexico, his two grandsons Patrick and Steele, numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews ad cousins.
    He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley Howe and his father Ernest Howe.

    Mrs Husted, age 49, of Rozet, Wyoming died on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at her home from cancer.
    Diane was born on January 22, 1961 the daughter of Marion "Buck" and Norma Jean (Duvall) Ruff in Gillette, Wyoming. She attended elementary school in Rozet, before Campbell County High School where she graduated in 1979.
    After graduation she married Bobbie Husted on June 30, 1979. Diane's focus was her children, she babysat so she would be at home with them until they went to school. She also worked for Pat's Hallmark and worked for her mom at Ruff's Rozet Bar and Cafe. Diane was active in little league when her children were young and was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
    Diane's grandchildren were the light of her life. She enjoyed football and was a Green Bay Packer and Wyoming Cowboy fan. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
    Diane is survived by her husband of 30 years; son, Trey Husted; daughter, Brandie (Scott) Jeffress; mother, Norma Ruff; grandmother, Jessie Duvall of Rozet, Wyoming; brother, Jake (Lu) Ruff all of Rozet, Wyo; grandchildren: Logan Husted, Lana Jeffress, Lexie Jeffress and Shilah Husted; nephews: Trevor and Nolan Ruff.
    She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Peggy Jo Ruff; brother, Alfred Ruff; grandparents: Carroll Duvall, Alfred "Pug" Ruff and Emma May Ruff.

  • Johnson, Isabelle Drucilla Kite Pattee

    Funeral services took place yesterday afternoon at one-thirty o'clock from the Community church in Rozet for Mrs Isabelle Johnson, 70, who died recently in Oregon.
    The Rev S C Ryland conducted the services. A trio composed of Mrs George Rice, Mrs S C Ryland and LaVern Harrod sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Home Over There", accompanied by Mrs LaVern Harrod.
    The pallbearers were A C Douglas, Lee Ridenour, Fred Ware, Tobe Frey, Neal Grey and Frank Stewart.
    Mrs Johnson was born Isabelle Drucilla Kite at Springfield, Ill, on January 22, 1873. Her girlhood days were spent in and around Springfield, where her parents owned a large farm.
    She was united in marriage at the age of 22 to Claude Pattee. Two children were born to this union, Mrs Watson Cody, of Seattle, Wash and Claude of Kansas.
    She was married a second time in 1900 to Thomas Johnson of Enid, Okla. She came with her husband and five children in a covered wagon to Wyoming in 1914. They lived on a homestead north of Rozet, and after the death of Mr Johnson in 1921, Mrs Johnson successfully operated the farm and educated the children.
    She went to Oregon in 1936, spending the six years prior to her death there. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years.
    She is survived by four daughters Mrs Watson Cody, Mrs O A McLeod of Vancouver, Wash, Mrs Elmer Whisler and Mrs Stanley Stewart of Rozet, and three sons, Claude, Fred Johnson of Oregon, and Kermit Johnson of Rozet; 22 grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

    Doris Mary (Gawryluk) Keller, 67, of Gillette died Wednesday, Sept 24, 2014, of cancer at home surrounded by family.
    Funeral Services for Mrs Keller will be held at 10am Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev Bob Rudichar officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Monday at Gillette Memorial Chapel.
    Doris was born in Dickinson, North Dakota, on March 31, 1947, to Pete and Elizabeth Gawryluk.
    In 1971, she married James T Keller and they moved to Gillette. There, they raised four children. Doris was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, young and old, right up to the time of her death.
    Her giving and gracious heart was a blessing to all those who knew her. She received great joy by helping others. She lived life to the fullest and loved others unconditionally.
    Doris loved to bake and was often referred to as a “food pusher,” as she loved to share her goodies with others, especially over a cup of coffee and game of cards. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, gardening and collectibles.
    Doris always lived her life for the Lord. She always tried hard to fill the needs and wants of everyone you knew her.
    She will be truly missed by her beloved husband of 43 years, Jim, but he knows that she is with the Lord in a better place with no more pain and suffering.
    Doris is also survived by her son, Todd Pittenger of Gillette; daughters, Juli Keller of Gillette, Karla (Chris) Laws of Millville of New Jersey and Kimberly (Bud) Lawrence of Gillette; brothers, Jimmy Gawryluk of Medora, North Dakota, Benny Gawryluk of Dickinson, North Dakota, Steven Gawryluk of Belfield, North Dakota and Paul Gawryluk of Dickinson, North Dakota; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Elizabeth Gawryluk; brother, Antone Gawryluk; and sisters, Vernette Holt and Ann Stockert.

    Our Loving angel came into this world Dec 15, 1984, to David “Lefty” King and Anne Adams in Salt Lake City, Utah.
    Cassidy was fearless throughout her life, always sharing her heart of gold and giving the shirt off her back for anyone in need. Her outspoken words accompanied by large hand gestures kept her the center of attention.
    Cassidy was blessed with three beautiful girls — Shannon, Paige and Angel. Cassidy attended her early years of education at St Marguerites Catholic School in Tooele, Utah, where she met and kept close friends that continued to stay part of her life. Cassidy achieved getting her diploma the same time as her mother in Gillette, a mile high accomplishment for both of them.
    Cassidy attended Salt Lake City Community College and Gillette Community College, always making friends along the way. Her next project was attending Climb Wyoming in pursuit of gaining her CDL.
    Cassidy will be missed by all, but ever-so-dearly by her parents, David King and Anne Adams; her brother, Teddy King; nephews, Kollin King and Steel King; nieces, Katlynn and Chevel; and grandparents, Marlin and Laquetta King; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
    Cassidy is now happy and safe with the Lord, always watching over all of us. New residence as of 24 September 2014: HEAVEN.

  • Kissack, Claude Robert Sr

    Funeral services for local businessman, Claude Robert Kissack Sr will be held Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the New Life Wesleyan Church with Pastor Marty Crump of the Family Life Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Rozet Cemetery in Rozet, Wyoming.
    Claude Kissack, age 86, of Rozet, Wyoming died on December 31, 2006, of complications of a stroke at the family home north of Rozet, surrounded by his family.
    Claude Kissack was born at home on September 6, 1920 to John Claude and Marion (McGregor) Kissack in Spearfish Valley, Spearfish, South Dakota. Claude joined sister, Louise, brothers: John, Phil and Donald. He went to school in Spearfish through the 7th grade and then went to work on the family farm. As a young man Claude went to Oregon and worked in the big timber as a high climber.
    Claude married Martha Reffel in Portland, Oregon in 1947. They had a son, Claude Kissack Jr in 1949. Martha died shortly after in 1949 from heart complications. Claude moved back to the Black Hills. It was there that he bought his first truck for $800 in 1949. His parents helped him with his baby son until he married Mildred F Somers on February 10, 1952. Four children were born to this union. Claude and Mildred's first home of one year was in Custer, South Dakota. Claude hauled bag cement from Laramie, Wyoming to Newcastle, Wyoming on a daily basis. They then moved to Newcastle where Claude hauled lumber supplies from Rapid City, South Dakota to Newcastle for Culver Lumber. Claude then started working in the oilfields around Newcastle as the oil boom was on. Claude and Mildred moved their family to Rozet, Wyoming in 1965 where they bought the Dave Whistler Ranch. They expanded their trucking business and continued to work in the oilfields around Gillette and other parts of Wyoming and neighboring states. Claude and Mildred incorporated their business in 1975. They sold stock in Kissack Water and Oil Service, Inc, to their son Doug Kissack and daughter Sally Reynolds and her husband John. Claude owned Kissack and Belmont Well Service, Inc, and Three Cornors Leasing, LLC. The business continued to grow and expanded into commercial cattle feeding in Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, South Dakota, California and Montana. Claude and Mildred sold their interest in Kissack Water and Oil Service, Inc, to Doug and Jo Kissack and John and Sally Reynolds in 1999. Claude was very involved in the stock market and was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Newcastle, Wyoming. He continued to work in his ranching business until his death; he also was currently in business with his youngest son, Quent and his wife Wendy. This business is a roustabout business called Kissack Oilfield Service, Inc. Claude worked very hard and was known to be quite a business and family man.
    Claude is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred and their five children: Claude Jr (Kathy) Kissack, Sally (John) Reynolds, Douglas (Jo) Kissack, Bart (Kathy) Kissack and Quentin (Wendy) Kissack all from the Gillette area; sister, Louise Cardinal of Portland, Oregon; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha and 3 brothers.
    A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society or the Gideon International.

  • Larsen, George Louis

    George Louis Larsen, 97, of Rozet, a longtime Campbell County rancher and WWII veteran, passed away Friday, Dec 9, 2011, at the Pioneer Manor in Gillette of natural causes.
    George was born Aug 8, 1914, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, to Chris and Marie (Spirup) Larsen. In 1918 the family moved to a small farm in Exira, Iowa.
    In 1920 after selling the farm in Iowa, the family moved to Wyoming in an old Model T truck, settling in southern Campbell County on a section of land they had purchased from the Wilmonts, where they raised cattle and farmed.
    In 1926, they moved to Beaver Creek, Ore. This is where George graduated from the eighth grade. The fall of 1929, found the Larsen's moving back to the home place in southern Campbell County where they stayed until 1938 when they sold out to Paul and Sadie Murphy.
    At this time they moved to the ranch northeast of Rozet which they purchased from E E Hammond.
    During his mid-teens George and his brother, Marion, worked for various ranchers in the Thunder Basin region.
    George recalled many stories of working for King Bales, using teams of six horses to pull the plow and harrow with a team of eight horses to pull a ten foot disk. George also worked for Lorey Anderson and at the Morton Ranch in Douglas.
    In 1934, George and his brother, Marion, bicycled across northeast Wyoming to the Grand Tetons where they worked for the summer. In 1937, George and his brother, Marion, started a small band, Marion played the violin, George played the guitar and a neighbor played the drums. They would play in school houses and community halls in and around the Teckla and Douglas area.
    George joined the Wyoming National Guard in Sheridan in February of 1941, but two days after joining he was inducted to the Army.
    George spent three years at Fort Lewis Washington, then moved on to camps in Oregon, California and Texas. In 1944 George was sent overseas where he served in France, Germany and Austria. He spent all of his time in the service as a cook, serving both enlisted men and officers.
    Upon his discharge in August of 1945 he returned to the ranch in Rozet to begin ranching with his parents on the land that he had bought adjoining theirs while he was in the service.
    In 1951, George was united in marriage to Hertha Semlek at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette. The couple continued to make their home on the ranch, where they raised two sets of twins.
    George was an active member with the local Farm Bureau in Gillette and also a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette for over 70 years, where he was very active and held many offices.
    George is survived by twin daughters, Ann (John) Shellhart of Cheyenne and Diann (Matt) Avery of Rozet; twin sons, Don (Sheila) Larsen of Gillette and Dan Larsen of Denver; sister-in-law, Margaret Larsen of Cheyenne; five grandchildren, Tina (Marty) Graham, Autumn (Tommy) Earhart, Sarah (Matt) Salas, Chris Larsen, Lindsay Larsen and Travis Larsen; six great-grandchildren, Selby and Delcy Graham, Alexis and Christian McGregor, Austin Newson and Dacian Larsen and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hertha; parents, Chris and Marie Larsen and brother, Marion Larsen.
    Memorials may be given in George's name to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette.
    Services will be 10am Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Tucher officiating.
    Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, on Gray Road.
    Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.


  • Larsen, Hertha Semlek

    Hertha Larsen, 97, of Rozet died May 23 at Pioneer Manor in Gillette of natural causes.
    Mrs Larsen was born May 8, 1914, in Crook County to Alex and Anna (Saar) Semlek. She graduated from Campbell County High School in l930.
    She taught in rural schools in Campbell and Crook County, Jireh and Torrington. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1950. She married George L Larsen on June 3, l951. She retired from teaching in 1979.
    She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and taking painting classes. Mrs Larsen was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
    Mrs Larsen is survived by her husband of 60 years, George of Rozet; daughters, Ann Shellhart of Cheyenne and Diann Avery of Rozet; sons, Don Larsen of Gillette and Dan Larsen of Denver; brother, William Semlek of Rozet; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert and Frank Semlek; and sister, Erna McCaughin.


  • Lubken, Rita Mary Schlautmann

    Rita Mary (Schlautmann) Lubken was born on July 19, 1922, the daughter of Wendell and Theresa (Lauby) Schlautmann at their home six miles southwest of the Savageton Wyoming store and post office and about six miles east of the North Butte of the Pumpkin Buttes. In 1927, the family moved to DeRudder, Louisiana where Rita attended Catholic school in first grade at Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1928, they moved to a farm near Smithfield, Nebraska where she attended second grade at a country school. In 1930, the family moved back to the homestead at Savageton, Wyoming where she attended the Savageton School from fifth grade through eighth grade. Don Riddles was her teacher during that time. She then completed the ninth grade by correspondence from Campbell County High School taught by Gretea Loftin. The first semester of her sophomore year, Rita attended St Martin's Catholic School in Sturgis, South Dakota. She then returned to the Schlautmann Ranch to assist the family with the sheep, cattle and chickens. While her Dad, Wendell, was busy with the fieldwork, Rita drove the mail route from Savageton to Turnercrest.
    On June 30, 1948, Reverend James Powers presided over the marriage of Rita to William E Lubken in the little white church that was on Gillette Avenue. The couple was blessed with ten children, five boys, then five girls. Rita and her husband, "Willie," lived in downtown Gillette for thirteen years until 1962 when the family moved to their new home on Little Powder River Road. When her children were young, Rita supplemented the family income by cleaning rooms for the Spur and Western Motels that were then owned by Jean and Wayne Oliver. In addition to nurturing her own children, Rita provided childcare for many families at the Presbyterian Church, the First Baptist Church, and Antelope Valley Baptist Church during the 1970's. Willie passed away on May 20, 2001 after two years in the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. Rita continued living independently in her home until shortly before her death. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, doing yard work, planting and keeping the house and barn painted and repaired.
    She loved to play bingo and was very lucky at it. She won many awards at the country and state fairs for her fine needlework and crafts. Rita said, "It is a blessing to be semi-retired." At the time of her death she was again back out at the family homestead under the care of her sister, Barbara Schlautmann.
    Rita is suvived by three sons: James Lubken of Denver, Colorado, Daniel (Denise) Lubken of Gillette, Wyoming and Jesse Lubken of Wright, Wyoming; five daughters: Barbara (Al Trujillo) Lubken and Veronica ( Wayne) Grohs of Gillette, Wyoming, Rita Brunner of Denver, Colorado, Colette (Sid) Hendricks of Sheridan, Wyoming and Becky (Mark) Eberts of North Vernon, Indiana; three sisters: Lucy McMahon of Gillette, Wyoming and Clara Smetna of Black River Falls, Wisconsin and Barbara Schlautmann of Savageton, Wyoming; two brothers: Albert Schlautmann of the Schlautmann Ranch near Savageton, Wyoming and Louis Schlautmann of South Heart, North Dakota; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Lubken, and two sons: Gerald "Jerry" Lubken and Donald Lubken.

    John Walter "Bogie" Maupin age 65, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital, Gillette, Wyo following and extended illness.
    John Walter Maupin was born November 18, 1944 to Tom and Christine Maupin in Pierre, South Dakota. The family ranched near Eagle Butte, SD until 1952 when they moved to Alzada, Montana.
    Bogie attended country school in Crook County, Wyoming and graduated from Hulett High School in 1962. He attended Casper College and Black Hills College in Spearfish, SD.
    For the past 15 years he lived south of Rozet, Wyoming on the Pickrel Land and Cattle Company Ranch.
    John is survived by one sister and two brothers as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

    Mr McBeth, age 77, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.
    Louis Roderic McBeth was born July 16, 1932 to homesteaders, Daniel and Grace (Throne) McBeth. Louis was raised on the family ranch located 25 miles southwest of Gillette.
    He attended grade school 6 miles north of the ranch and often rode his horse there. He later drove the ranch truck back and forth to school. At the age of fifteen Louis was confirmed in the Presbyterian Church. He attended Campbell County High School where he was a four year member on the FFA and was on the beef judging team. He also played football all four years and was selected to the all conference team as a lineman.
    After graduation Louis was drafted into the Army and served as a military policeman at Ft Ord and Camp Roberts during the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge Louis returned home to begin a successful ranching career. Louis worked the family ranch and helped his neighbors and was able to purchase additional property over the years.
    Louis was very interested in the mineral industry and pursued that as well. Louis was a 50 year member of the Farm Bureau and served as a board member for Powder River Energy.
    In 1969, he married Helen I Hall. Louis became involved in cattle feeding in the 1980s, and expanded his operations into Nebraska where he owned a farm. His eye for good cattle served him well over his lifetime and Louis won the beef carcass competition at the 2007 Wyoming State Fair.
    Louis was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother David.
    Louis is survived by his wife, Helen; step daughter, Glenda Olson; step son, James (Diane) Hall; four grandchildren: Kyle, Kali, Koel Hall and Kristi Williamson; sister, Marjorie (Dale) Ruby; four nieces: Connie Heimer, Trena Bauder, Brenda James, and Dalene Ruby and several great nieces and nephews.

  • McClure, Duane Earl

    Duane Earl McClure, 78, of Recluse, died May 15 at Memorial Hospital in Sheridan.
    He was born on March 3, 1935 in Gillette, the son of Earl and Alta McClure. He graduated from high school in Sheridan.
    After finding the love of his life, Betty Ann Zaichkin, the couple married on Oct 7, 1964, and lived in Sheridan. They had five children, and worked hard providing for a strong traditional family of seven.
    Mr McClure served in the US Air Force. After he separated from the military, Mr McClure built fences and started logging in the Big Horn Mountains. In 1968, he became a contract pumper and started ranching. He pumped until 1985.
    Mr McClure was always a cowboy at heart. All of the outdoor hunting, fishing and ranching he did with beloved dog, Lucky.
    Mr McClure is survived by his wife, Betty Ann McClure of Recluse; sons Duane E McClure Jr of Gillette, Grant L McClure of Sundance, David A Castle of Gillette, Richard L Castle of Rawlins; daughter, Ruth A Peltier of Recluse; brother, Dee L McClure of Gillette; sister, Della A Poeling of Hot Springs, SD; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dean L McClure.

Larry was raised and educated in Corvallis, Montana, graduating from Corvallis High School in 1971. On June 12, 1971, Larry married Elna Hulford near Hamilton, Montana. One son was born of this union. As a young adult, Larry worked on local ranches and in hay fields in the Bitterroot Valley, Montana and in Idaho. In the early 1970's, he moved to Gillette, Wyoming and began working in the oilfields. Larry was the owner of ABM Well Service in Gillette, Wyoming for the past several years.
    Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his precious grandchildren. He also enjoyed his line of work, hunting, fishing, trap shooting, trips to Deadwood, South Dakota, going to Denver, Colorado for Bronco games. Larry also enjoyed his many pets over the years.
    Larry is survived by his wife of Rozet, Wyoming; his son, Chad (Joanie) Miller of Gillette, Wyoming; his grandchildren: Emily and William Miller of Gillette, Wyoming; his sister, Peggy (Reid) Flinders of Corvallis, Montana; his brother, Bill Miller of Hamilton, Montana; his mother-in-law, Minnie Hulford of Rozet, Wyoming; his brothers-in-law, Gary (LaVern) Hulford of Fallon, Nevada; Carl (Sherrie) Hulford of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Jack (Cindy) Hulford of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Todd Cunningham and his father-in-law, Rufus Hulford.

    Memorial services for Chad D Nobach will be at 11am Thursday at Family Life Church, officiated by the Rev Bill Morel.
    Chad Nobach, 29, of Gillette passed away Saturday, Sept 20, 2014, due to a fatal car accident.
    Chad was born Oct 14, 1984, in Lansing, Michigan, to Lori and Timothy Nobach. He graduated from Ovid Elsie in 2002, and had several jobs until he moved to Wyoming in 2007.
    At the time of his death, Chad worked at Nelson Brothers, where he worked for four years. Chad had moved up the ladder as a field tech and on Sept 1 was promoted to team leader.
    On Feb 27, 2009, Chad married McKayla Lang of Moorcroft, who had a son, David, that Chad proudly and lovingly raised as his own. To their family of three they added two more sons, Chandler and Carson.
    Chad's father in-law got him hooked on NASCAR and he became a huge Dale Jr fan. He never missed one race. He also loved rooting for the Detroit Lions and would yell at the TV whenever they would lose.
    Chad was a wonderful provider for his wife and three boys. He loved spending every moment he could with his wife, children and in-laws.
    Chad had been missing his home and family back in Michigan and planned on going to visit his mom, sister, niece and nephews next year. He was very excited about it! Family meant everything to Chad, and he made sure everyone knew how much he loved them. Chad will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, co-workers and friends.
    Chad is survived by his wife, McKayla; sons; David, Chandler and Carson; mother, Lori (Terry) Rose; father, Timothy Nobach; sister, Nichole (Jon) Blacker; and brother, Cory Nobach. Chad is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and his two nephews, Hunter and J D Blacker, and his niece, Faith Blacker.
    Chad was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy and Maynard Nobach; his uncle, Scott Ward; great-grandma, Lucile Ward; and great-grandma, Lorraine Hasenbank.

  • Oedekoven, Edna Frances Bricker

    Edna F (Bricker) Oedekoven, age 90, of Recluse, Wyoming, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, Wyoming, of natural causes.
    Edna was born on the family homestead in Bridgeport, Nebraska, in their home on January 10, 1921, to Milton and Mattie Bricker, the youngest of seven children. She attended elementary school in Nebraska. Edna attended high school in Gillette, Wyoming. She married James R Oedekoven on December 28, 1938, in Rapid City, South Dakota. James made Edna walk across the state line from Wyoming into South Dakota during a typical Wyoming blizzard. Ed and Tootie Sharp witnessed the marriage ceremony. James always said he left with $25.00 and a model T, and came back with a Model T and a wife. James and Edna resided in Recluse. Together the couple opened Oedekoven Garage and Implement, run livestock, and had a water well service. In 1960, Edna became Post Master in Recluse and ran the Recluse General Store for 22 years. She always expressed she loved every minute of it. Edna always made sure she had plenty of time for her family, even during the oilfield boom during the 70's and 80's. Edna carried many cases of pop and beer from the basement of the store to the coolers upstairs. For the longest time, Edna held the license to the smallest bar in the State of Wyoming. She was a very active member in the community. Edna held membership in the Pleasant Hour Ladies Club and was a charter member of the Recluse Petroleum Club. She was very instrumental in getting the Recluse Petroleum Club established. Edna maintained her membership in both clubs up to her death and remained active. She was also an officer for the Wyoming Postmaster's Association. Edna was a pilot in the late 40's and early 50's and loved to attend fliers meets. She was also a member of the Wyoming Flying Farmers. In the 1950's when times were tough, Edna ran a trap line in the winter months for extra income. She generally trapped muskrats and mink. After retirement in the early 80's, Edna enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, and she loved her gambling (all types horses, slots, keno, and Powerball). In her later years she moved to Gillette where the highlight of her life was focused on the Senior Center in Gillette. She was a very social woman and became fast friends with everyone she came in contact with. In 2010, Edna moved to the Agape Manor in Buffalo, Wyoming. She enjoyed every moment spent there and again quickly became friends with all the staff and other residents.
    Edna is survived by three children: Nancy (Edward) Delaney, Richard (Connie) Oedekoven, and Fred (Mary Ann) Oedekoven all of Recluse, Wyoming; ten grandchildren: James Delaney, Brenda Kilburn, Bonnie Byers, Laurie Kluz, Paul Oedekoven, Lisa Wilken, Bambi Johnston, Angel Lindblom , Jason W Oedekoven, and Cheri Irvin; 25 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James; her sisters: Bertha, Eva, Viola and Freda; her brothers: Charley and Clayton.
    Mass of Christian Burial for Edna Frances Oedekoven will be held, Friday, February 18, 2011, at St Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Tim Martinson officiating. Graveside service will be in Recluse Cemetery.


  • Oedekoven, John Gilbert

    John Gilbert Oedekoven, age 82, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012, with his family by his side, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY. Gilbert was born on July 27, 1929, the son of George and Carolyn (Beynon) Oedekoven in Gillette, WY.
    Gilbert attended rural schools and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1948. As a young man Gilbert worked on the family ranch ten miles north of Gillette. In the early 1960's, he purchased a ranch on the McGee Road and in 1992, expanded his ranch south of Gillette on Highway 50. Cattle and sheep ranching was his passion, but Gilbert supplemented his time with numerous other interests and employment.
    In 1974 he married Chris Raitt, and she passed away in 1986. Gilbert met Rita Whalen and due to his love of John Deere tractors the couple was married March 1, 2002, at Bentz Equipment in Belle Fourche, SD.
    Gilbert was active in the community and various agricultural activities and organizations throughout his life in Campbell County. He had a big heart and love for all animals, small and large.
    Gilbert always enjoyed the routine of the seasons on the ranch, from winter feeding to haying, and especially watching the young calves and lambs arrive, signaling a fresh new beginning, and the continuing of a cycle. He also looked forward to hunting season, and the return of friends from out of state for the last 60 years. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Rita Whalen of Gillette, WY; two step daughters, Erin (Michael) Galloway of Gillette, WY; Nichole Whalen of Phoenix, AZ; two nephews, Olin Oedekoven and his wife Laurel Vicklund, Byron ( Marge) Oedekoven; one niece, Isora (Jeff) Heckel; two grand-nieces, Genevieve Heckel, and Valarie Heckel; one step-granddaughter, Mackenzie Galloway; and numerous cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles Oedekoven.
    Funeral services for lifetime Campbell County resident and rancher, Gilbert Oedekoven, will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gillette with Pastor George Moore officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Walker Funeral Home, and also one hour prior to service at the church.
    A private burial will be Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Bethlehem Cemetery.

    Georgia was born the daughter of George and Lois Bird on December 10, 1951, in Harlowton, Montana. She was raised and educated in Great Falls, Montana. During the 1970's she lived in Seattle, Washington, where she worked at the first Starbucks and the Fireside Lounge. Through the 1980's and 1990's Georgia worked for various construction companies such as EDC (1984), CDK (1986, and Flour Daniels (1992-93) in electrical positions.
    Georgia traveled the United States extensively living in such places as Austin, Nevada, Savannah, Georgia, Lake Charles, Louisiana, before returning to Wright, Wyoming in 1997, the one place that she had journeyed that she called home. Georgia enjoyed sewing, cooking, socializing, and spoiling her loved ones.
    Georgia is survived by her daughter Noahleh and her husband Jay Olsen; four sisters: Bobby Hansen of Montana, Thelma Kerzmann of North Dakota, Alice Rabenseau of Alaska, Mararet Bird of Wyoming; one brother: Gerry Bird of South Carolina; one granddaughter: Isabelle Olsen; and numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
    Georgia was preceded in death by her mother Lois bird, her father George Bird, her companion Edward Dorsey and her brother Charles Bird.


  • Reed, Ernest "Ernie" Clifton

    Ernest "Ernie" Clifton Reed, age 92, of Gillette, WY, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Mountain View Living in Sheridan, Wyoming of natural causes. Ernie Reed was born on May 28, 1919 in Gillette, WY, the son of John and Mary (Houser) Reed.
    He was raised and educated in Gillette. While serving in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was well decorated including two purple hearts and a silver star. Upon his honorable discharge he went back to work as a carpenter.
    Ernie married Mary B Marvel on November 20, 1946, to this union they had four children. He enjoyed keeping active by bowling and horseback riding. Ernie also enjoyed a good book. He was an active member of the VFW, American Legion, National Rifle Association and the DAV. Ernie was an elder for more than thirty years at the Christian Church.
    Ernie is survived by his children, Lewis (Linda) Reed of Mesa, AZ, Alberta (Jim) Bowden of Rozet, WY, Barbara (Steve) Gonzalez and Gwen Reed all of Gillette, WY; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two brothers, Jack and Francis Reed.
    Memorials are suggested to help fund a scholarship for education at a Christian school of their choice. Memorials and condolences may be sent in Ernie's name in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Christian Church with Pastor David Mondle officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #42. Visitation will be held from Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Gillette Memorial Chapel.

    Funeral services for Mary B Reed, 78, of Gillette will be at 10am Tuesday at the Christian Church with the Rev Mike Dennis officiating.
    Private family burial will be at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Gray Road at a later date.
    Mrs Reed died at her home Saturday, Feb 1, 2003, of natural causes.
    She was born March 6, 1924, to Albert and Ruby (Johnson) Marvel in Sheridan. She was raised on the Platte ranch, north of Gillette. She moved with her family to Gillette in the early 1930s.
    On Nov 20, 1946, she married Ernest Reed in Gillette. She was very active in the Christian church. She taught Sunday school for about 50 years and was also involved with the youth group for many of those years. Had her health allowed, she would still be teaching Sunday school today. When she was in better health, she enjoyed bowling and played on several teams throughout the years.
    She loved to do needle work and crochet. She made many item for people over the years. She enjoyed her family, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and also her many friends.
    Mrs Reed is survived by her husband and her four children, Lewis C Reed of Mesa, Ariz, Alberta L Bowden of Rozet, Barbara L Gonzalez and Gwen L Reed, both of Gillette; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; and one half-sister.

    Funeral Services Held Friday for R. W. Reed Final Rites were held for R W Reed, 99, from the First Presbyterian church in Gillette on Friday, March 23, 1956, with the Rev Jack Reed of Grants, New Mexico officiating, and the Rev Robert M Phenix assisting.
    Mr Reed passed away at his home at Tekamah, Nebraska on March 18.
    LaVern Harrod sang "Abide With Me" and " Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Mrs Harrod at the organ.
    Pallbearers were Perry Wallace, Hershell Mapes, Pete Ingdahl, Charlie Donner, Lewis Hatfield and Albert Wells.
    Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, including Orie Gilliland, Francis and Ernest Reed, Earl and John Hanslip and Carl Melton.
    Burial was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery in the Little Iowa community located north of Moorcroft.
    Reuben W Reed was born on February 4, 1857, to Benjamin Franklin Reed and Harriet Emiline Whitney-Reed in Hardin county, Iowa, near Steamboat Rock. He grew to manhood there and also received his education in that community. He was the last surviving nephew of Ely Whitney, the inventor of the cotton gin.
    He was united in marriage to Sara Elizabeth Emerson in 1881, and to this union eight children were born. They were Maggie, Jessie, Reuben, Evert, Ruth, Edith, John and Gladys.
    In 1888 Mr and Mrs Reed and family moved to eastern Nebraska by means of a covered wagon. While living there, he assisted in organizing an Independent Order of Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a member. He was active in church work most of his life.
    In 1916 Mr Reed and his family came to Campbell county and homesteaded in the Adon community near Deer creek. He lived there until 1938. From 1938 until 1945 he visited his children and finally returned to his old home in the Tekamah community and lived there until his death.
    Survivors are one son, John Reed of Gillette; four daughters, Mrs Maggie Melton, Oakland, Oregon, Mrs Jessie Sears, Lyons, Nebr, Mrs Ruth Bray, Omaha, Nebr, and Mrs Gladys Gilliland, Moorcroft, Wyo; 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
    Preceding him in death were is wife, a daughter, Edith and two sons; Reuben and Evert.
    Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral included Mrs Melton and Mrs Bray. Visiting grandchildren and their families were Mr and Mrs John Hanslip and Steven of Sheridan, Wyoming; Mr and Mrs Earl Hanslip and family and Lynn Vanderhayden of Big Horn, Mr and Mrs Carl Melton of Casper, Mr and Mrs Francis Reed of Worland, Mr and Mrs Ralph McCoy and Janice of Upton and the Rev Reed.


  • Reynolds, Clark

    Clark Reynolds was born at the family home at Rocky Point, Wyoming the second of 8 children. Clark was born to Henry Aldin and Ethel L (Clark) Reynolds. Clark attended grade school at the Trail Creek School and attended Rocky Point, Wyoming High School.
    Clark married Kathryn Reardon on July 28, 1938 at Broadus, Montana. Their first home was a sheep wagon at the Parks Ranch. Clark Reynolds was employed by the Parks for a total of 34 years. They then moved to Duck Creek and worked for Gayle Potter. During this time, Clark headed up a trail drive in the spring of 1969 trailing 325 heifers from Reno Junction to Moorhead, Montana. In 1974 Clark and Katie went into business for their selves leasing the Don Chambers Place south of Gillette, Wyoming In 1980 they moved to Moorcroft, Wyoming and continued ranching in that area. Clark was still ranching at the time of his death. Clark Reynolds was known to be quite a horseman and stockman. He always enjoyed riding a good horse. Clark also had a special love for children.
    Clark Reynolds is survived by his wife Katie of Moorcroft, Wyoming, and their eight children: Aldin Reynolds, Clark Reynolds, Chuck Reynolds, Dan Reynolds, John Reynolds, Harry Reynolds, Kelly Reynolds of Campbell and Crook County, and Barb Swingholm of Aberdeen, Maryland; two brothers, Ellis Reynolds of Moorcroft, Wyoming, and Vernon Reynolds of Gillette, Wyoming; and two sisters Vera May Clements of Biddle, Montana, and Lucile Christianson of Wheatland, Wyoming. They have 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
    Clark Reynolds was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister, 1 grandson, and 1 granddaughter.


  • Schlautmann, Albert Wendell

    Albert Wendell Schlautmann, 82, he died Nov 23, 2007 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.
    He was born on July 25, 1925 to Wendell and Theresa Schlautmann at the family ranch near Savageton and was a life-long resident of Campbell County.
    He was a World War II veteran who enlisted in the Army on May 15, 1945, just one week after VE Day. He enlisted at Fort Logan, Colo, and served at various other locations until his discharge at the end of the war.
    In December of 1946 he met Mary Cohee, also of Gillette and they married Oct 26, 1947. He was working at Fulkerson Flying Service in Gillette at the time of their wedding, but they soon moved to his family's ranch 40 miles south of Gillette where he worked and raised his family for the remainder of his life.
    Over the years, he was a member of the Flying Farmers and the cattle growers association. He was also an active parishioner at St Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette and had an extensive circle of friends in the community.
    Survivors include his wife, his sisters, Barbara Schlautmann and Lucy McMahon of Gillette, Clara Smetna of Black River Falls, Wis; his brother, Louis Schlautmann of South Heart, N D; his seven children, Joseph Schlautmann and his wife, John Schlautmann, Ronald Schlautmann and his wife, Patrick Schlautmann and his wife, Patricia Saunders and her husband and Michael Schlautmann, all of Gillette and Zita Schlautmann, who currently resides in San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was loved and is deeply missed by all.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother who died at birth in 1933, his sister, Rita Lubken, and two grandsons.
    Interment at Savageton Cemetery.

    Raylene Lyne (Hibbs) Sharp of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on July 21, 2013 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming from liver failure.
    Raylene was born December 31, 1961 in Winner, South Dakota to Charles and Molly (Humphrey) Hibbs. Raylene loved her cats and all animals. She had a gift with animals in her training. She loved horses and loved drawing. Raylene showed us how to love when she was a child; she always gave hugs and kisses and told everyone she loved them. We will always hold this in our hearts and our memory of her.
    She is survived by her mother, Molly Clements, sisters: Susan (Ed) Krogman; Dolly (Greg) Tubridy; Brenda (Travis) Radack, brothers: Charles Hibbs, Jr; and Lonnie Hibbs.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Hibbs.

    GILLETTE, Wyo, Nov 19 - M D Shields, a pioneer rancher of northern Wyoming, died at his home in SanDiego, Calif, according to word received here by his sons, Mark and Hugh. Hugh left at once to attend the funeral. Mr Shields was at one time manager of the O-4-Bar Cattle Company. He was 66 years of age.


  • Simmons, Tom

    Tom Simmons saddled up for his final and eternal ride on July 22, 2013, after a full life of adventures. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday July 27, 2013 at the American Legion Hall. Friends are invited to follow the riderless horse procession from Camplex Park to the American Legion Hall beginning at 1:00pm on Saturday.
    Tom was born on 8/32/34 in Madison, SD, to James and Elizabeth (Beecham) Simmons. He attended Alzada Elementary, and graduated from Hysham, MT high school in 1953. During high school he lettered in Football playing DE and WR as well as in Basketball as a Point Guard. After graduation Tom started working as a ranch hand, most memorably at the Williams, Wilson, Simpson, Nemick and Nefsy ranches, ending at the Hubing Ranch in Biddle, MT.
    On November 3,1957 Tom married Mary Ferguson. From that marriage they had 4 children; Jim, Dee, Philip and Iva Simmons. They started their family in rural Montana, and then moved to Gillette, WY in 1977. After moving to Gillette he started driving truck for Jim's Water Service, where he discovered his true career path. In 1988 he started driving truck over the road. He saw this country from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean; Canada to Mexico and everything in between. This included his favorite places: the caves of Kansas City, MO; meat market in Huntspoint, NY; plants in Sanford, FL; produce on the coast of California and the ice rains in Texas. In 1994 Tom and his son, Phil, started Ridge Runner Trucking. This endeavor made it possible for him to continue to see the country as well as provide for his family. He returned to his family in 1997 on a full time basis, by working for Jim's Water Service as a lease driver, hauling water for the oil industry. He retired from the road in 2002; where his outgoing personality won him many friends and acquaintances in all ports. This includes having a burger named after him at The Knuckle Saloon in Sturgis SD, called the Tommy Burger and showing the younger generation the art of bull taming in Edgemont, SD. His favorite moments at the end were spent at the Senior Center in Gillette, WY with Becky and table 11. To his last day he prided himself in the art of the cowboy way, continually telling stories of his younger days and teaching the younger generations how to travel through life and appreciate each day as a new beginning.

    MOORCROFT, Wyo -- Final rites for John H "Jack" Simpson, 76, longtime Campbell Wyo, County rancher will be conducted 2pm Tuesday from the First Presbyterian Church in Moorcroft, Pastor Don Botie and Pastor Robert Smoot officiating.
    Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley cemetery.
    Mr Simpson, a former Iliff resident, died Friday, July 8, 1988, at his ranch home.
    He was born Aug 20, 1911, in Iliff the son of Howard H and Bertha A Wirsig Simpson, delivered in the Iliff area and graduated from Iliff High School in 1929, then moved to a ranch in southern Montana before enrolling in the University of Colorado. While studying at the university, Mr Simpson worked for the Heinz Pickel Co, in LaSalle.
    In 1932 he homesteaded on a ranch north of Wyodak, Wyo. The following year he went to work for Harris-Simpson Cattle Company managing several ranches.
    He married Hilda Raudsep, Nov 11, 1941, in Mills City, Mont, and the couple continue to ranch, purchasing their ranch in 1951.
    Mrs Simpson died in 1986.
    Mr Simpson was active in 4-H projects and knowledgeable about soil and growing of crops and pasture land.
    He was a member of the Moorcroft Senior Citizen's Center, University of Wyoming Scholarship Fund, Agriculture Advisory Board, Farmers Co-op Association board, ASCS, past Soil Conservation District county committeeman, the National Association of Soil Conservation Districts, and past chairman of the Powder River Basin Resouce Center Board.
    He is survived by a son, Loren Simpson of Gillette, Wyo; four daughters Hilda Ann Brimmer of Biddle, Mont, Kay Rene Jones of Moorcroft, Wyo, Cheri Faris of Wheatland, Wyo, and Lois Schlup of Douglas, Wyo; three sisters, Alice Nance, of Bakersfield, Calif, Evelyn Mullenaux of Sterling and Helen Calderwood of Topeka, Kan; a foster brother, Walter Wickam of California and 14 grandchildren.
    Noecker Funeral Home of Gillette, Wyo, is in charge of the arrangements.


  • Simpson, June Marguerite Smith Cumpton Shaw

    June Marguerite Simpson, age 70, died at Primrose Retirement Community on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, of natural causes. June was born on June 9, 1941 in Kent City, Mich, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Rollston) Smith.
    As a small child she moved to Montana to live with her older brother after the death of her mother. She was raised and educated in Ronan, Mont.
    Upon her graduation she married Arnold Cumpton, and together they had three children. The couple later divorced. June married Harold Shaw and together they moved to Gillette, Wyo, in the mid 70's. Harold and June operated several different auto repair businesses. They later divorced. June worked at the Cam-plex and the American Legion. On February 12, 1997, June married Loren Simpson in Sundance, WY. Loren and June enjoyed retirement together, traveling to watch Cowboy football games and trips to Deadwood, SD. June's hobbies included gardening, vegetables, and flowers, and the occasional game of cribbage. She was a fan of western movies, and John Wayne. She was particularly fond of her grandkids.
    June is survived by her husband, Loren Simpson of Rozet, WY; sons, Ray Cumpton and Robin Cumpton both of Gillette, WY; daughter, Evelyn (Dave) Wright of Stevensville, Mont; sisters, Frances Kinnuean of Kingsly, Mich, Florence Pollard of Gooding, Idaho, and Kathryn (Mick) Holliday of Michigan; and five grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gerald Smith, Donald Smith, and Marion Smith; and sister, Geraldine Moore.
    Funeral services for June Simpson will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor George Moore of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Rozet, WY. Visitation will be held Monday, January 9, 2012, at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to benefit the American Legion Boys and Girls State.


  • Smith, Richard

    GILLETTE, Wyo, May 14 - Richard Smith, 14 years old, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Smith who reside near the 4-J ranch southwest of Gillette is dead from a bullet wound inflicted by his younger brother, Ralph. The two boys had gone hunting. They became separated and Ralph, who carried a .22 rifle was in the act of shooting at a rabbit just as his elder brother stepped from behine a knoll. The injured by fell to the ground without a murmur. Realizing what he had done, Ralph ran to the house for his father. Upon the father's arrival, the wounded boy opened his eyes, glanced up at his father and died without having spoken a word.

    GILLETTE, Wyo, May 21 - Roy Smith, proprietor of a lunchcounter in the Exchange bar here, is dead as the result of being shot in the neck by the accidental discharge of his shot gun near the lake north of Gillette. After having been hunting on the lake with a party of friends, Smith returned to his auto and was putting the gun in the car when it was accidentally discharged. He died two hours later. He leaves his wife.


  • Thar, Elvira Halverson

    Elvira was born October 25, 1926 in Rozet, Wyoming to Anna Maria Halverson. Elvira attended school in Rozet, Wyoming. She married Francis J Thar on June 16, 1963 in Gillette, Wyoming.
    She was a loving wife, sister, aunt and will be dearly missed by all. We will have you in our hearts forever. Elvira enjoyed the staff and volunteers at the Pioneer Manor. The love and compassion they gave to Elvira and her family will be missed. She also loved to garden and be on the ranch being a ranch hand.
    Elvira is survived by her husband of 43 years, and numerous nieces and nephews in Wyoming, Oklahoma, Texas, and her mother's native Sweden.
    She was preceded in death by her mother, and her sister Marie Trantham.

    Graveside services for Charles Lee Welch will be held at 10:00am, Monday, July 11, 2011 at Bethlehem Cemetery with Pastor Elgin Faber of Mike Morrison Ministries officiating. Charlie Welch, age 56, of Gillette, Wyoming died at his home on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 after a long illness.
    Charlie Welch born to Dorothy and Alvis Welch in Newcastle, Wyoming, June 9th 1955. At a young age he and his family moved to Glendive, Montana where he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Dawson County High School, graduating in 1973. After high school, he worked as a truck driver at Paraffin Service, a business owned by his father.
    On December 29th, 1978, Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Buck. They were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Chelsey born November 7th, 1983, Kasey born October 5th, 1985, and Kaitlyn born January 19th, 1989. Charlie enjoyed nothing more than following his girls in sports. Whether it was basketball, baseball, or rodeo he was always there to cheer them on.
    He also enjoyed Nascar, hunting, fishing, camping, being in the mountains, and being in the outdoors. He owned Welch Construction in Lewistown, Montana for 26 years doing excavating, general construction.
    In 2004, he and his family moved to Wyoming where he was contracted as a Pipeline Consultant for Western Gas. In 2005, he suffered a traumatic brain aneurism at which time the family continued with Welch Construction as a Roustabout and Erosion control company.
    He was proud of his three daughters for finding the strength to be in the field operating a company considered to be a "mans line of work" . Although he was seldom in the fields after his aneurism he was always there for advice. His vast knowledge in equipment, trucks and in life was the shoulder everyone always leaned on for answers.
    He was able to walk all three of his daughters down the aisle on their wedding days. His life was his family, no one came before them. He was graced by two grandchildren Gracin and Averie whom he loved with all his heart. His love for his daughters can be seen in the amazing women they have become.
    He will never be gone, never will he be forgotten. He lives in the eyes of his daughters, and the memories of a lifetime spent with his wife.
    His love will raise the generations to come. He may be gone but he lives on in everyone who came into contact with him. Charlie Won the battle over his illness and went home to be with his Heavenly Father.
    Charlie is survived by his wife Sherry Welch of Gillette, Wyoming, his three daughters: Chelsey (Kurt) Kissack, Kasey (Daniel) Peak, Katie (Zach) Dorr all of Gillette, Wyoming; his grandchildren: Gracin and Averie; sister, Deb (Jim) Nette of Billings, Montana, his in laws: Lucille and Donald Frerichs, sister and brother in law: Brenda and Doug Nissley all of Glendive, Montana, Frenchy Buck of Issaquah, Washington; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and his dog Saffie Jo. Charlie was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.   • West, Frances Drane

    Frances West was born June 26, 1919, west of Ridge, Montana, on a small family ranch, the daughter of Lena (Irish) and Tom Drane. Frances was raised and educated in Ridge, Montana. After she married Bruce West in 1936 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, they worked at various jobs, one with WPA, building bridges down by Stroner, on the D Road. In March of 1937, they moved to Newberg, Oregon, looking for work. Jobs were hard to find. They lived in Oregon and Washington for two years, working at whatever was available- cutting wood in winter, tending and picking hops in summer. The highest wage they ever earned in those two years was 35 cents per hour.
    They moved back to Rockypoint, Wyoming in the spring of 1939. They moved to the Starr Ranch in 1940. They worked for the Oscar Starr for two years and then leased the Floyd Closson place for one year. In 1945, they moved to Bruce's father's homestead at Rockypoint. In the fall of 1948, Frances and her husband bought the Herb Hemenway place. They lived there for about two years, but moved back to the home place, where they spent most of the rest of their lives. In 1984, Bruce lost his eyesight and they retired. They divided their time between their homes at Rockypoint, Wyoming and Gillette, Wyoming. After Bruce's death in 1994, Frances continued to spend her time between her rural home and apartment in Gillette, Wyoming. She moved to Pioneer Manor in Gillette, Wyoming after a fall caused a brain injury. She enjoyed crocheting until her eyesight would no longer let her, gardening, her home, and most of all, her family.
    She is survived by two daughters: Lois (Ellis) Richards of Gillette, Wyoming; Debbie (Bruce) Lundquist of Polson, Montana; two sons: Oscar West of Gillette, Wyoming; and Doug (Betty) West of Rockypoint, Wyoming; twelve grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
    Frances was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandparents; two sons: Bruce and Tom West; one grandson, Cory Wetherelt; and five brothers and four sisters.

  • Whisler, Ruth Belle Johnson

    Ruth Belle Whisler passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Rapid City, SD on April 5, 2006 of congestive heart failure.
    Ruth was born May 30, 1904 to Thomas and Druscilla (Kite) Johnson, in a log cabin near the small town of Hardy, Arkansas. She was the third of six siblings. Her first 5 years were spent on the farm where she and her two elder sisters spent many happy hours in the woods picking wild flowers, grapes, and nuts. At the age of 5, Ruth moved with her family to Kansas in a covered wagon, pulled by a mule and a horse, and she attended her first three years of school there.
    In 1912 she and her family moved again by covered wagon to Oklahoma where they spent one year. In December 1913 they moved back to Kansas for a month and then on to Wyoming, arriving in Moorcroft on April 1, 1914 by covered wagon. She attended the Well Creek School through the 8th grade and then Rozet High School, graduating in the second graduating class in 1924. After graduation, Ruth attended summer school in Buffalo and a teacher's institute, and then taught school at the Ely School north of Moorcroft. On April 28, 1926, she married Elmer Whisler in the Presbyterian Manse in Gillette. She spent the first nine years of married life in the Rozet community, three of those years on a homestead 7 miles north of Rozet. During those years, her first two children were born, Eurith in 1927 and Philip in 1928. In 1935 Ruth and her family migrated to the west coast where they spent about seven years, following the harvests. In 1938 the family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho for a short time then back to Oregon. Ruth's youngest child, Joan, was born in 1939 in Oregon. She and her family then moved to Whitefish, Mont for a short time and again returned to Oregon. Ruth's husband worked in the shipyards in Portland, Oregon during the war years and then in 1942 she and her family moved back to Wyoming. They bought a ranch southeast of Rozet and farmed and raised cattle. In 1948 they bought a ranch 10 miles northeast of Rozet and Ruth resided there until her death. In 1943 Ruth began teaching again and continued until her retirement in 1969. She taught almost entirely in one-room country schools, many years having students in all eight grades. During her teaching career she also earned her Degree at Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, SD and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She dearly loved teaching children and until her death she could remember almost every child she ever taught, what school they were in and what grade. Ruth was widowed in 1968 but continued ranching, raising cattle and sheep with the help of her brother, Kermit, until 1986. Ruth learned to bowl after her retirement from teaching and she bowled in the Tea Time League in Moorcroft for 15 years, then in Gillette for several more years. She traveled through most of the United States, parts of Canada, and toured the Mid East following Paul's Missionary Journeys. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Gillette, and taught Sunday school for 4 years. She later served as a Deacon for 15 years. She volunteered for the Campbell County Hospital Auxiliary for 7 years, working in the Gift Shop and making puppet mice for the children. She later crocheted over 1200 baby caps for the hospital as a church project. She also crocheted many afghans, bedspreads, doilies, and tablecloths. She enjoyed painting, working with ceramics, sewing, gardening and having her grandchildren around her. She had a fantastic memory and enjoyed talking about early times. She was called on many times to speak to school students and other organizations about the history of Campbell County, her journey to Wyoming, and what life was like for her in her early years. She particularly enjoyed speaking to the school students. She liked to walk and until about 3 years ago, she walked every day, weather permitting, for a mile. Ruth spent 37 1/2 years on the ranch alone, never wanting to move to town because she couldn't see the wide open spaces, the beautiful wild flowers, and the wild and tame animals unless she were in the country. She was still able to drive and was very proud of being able to renew her driver's license at the age of 100. She drove herself to Gillette for supplies and to church up until her death. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; her parents; her sisters Edna and Myrtle and brothers Fred and Kermit. She is survived by her children, Eurith (Ralph) Romel of Rapid City, SD, Philip R (Toshiko) Whisler of Roseville, Calif, Joan (Ron) Miller of Laurel, Mont; grandchildren Karen (John) Hansen of Kalispell, Mont, Terry (Cerise) Romel of Vancouver, Wash, Mark Whisler of Vancouver, Wash, Randy (Karen) Whisler of Portsmouth, NH, and Craig (Stephanie) Kuntz of Tigard, Ore; great grandchildren, Heather (Thomas) Hansen-Munro of Durango, Colo, Ryan Whisler of Vancouver, Wash, Miranda, Parker and Paige Kuntz of Tigard, Ore, Emily and Luke Whisler of Portsmouth, NH; great-great grandchildren Britton Hansen and Clara Munro of Durango, Colo; step-grandchildren Scott Miller of Laurel, Mont and Becky Williams of Mooresville, NC; step-great grandchildren Nathaniel and Alena Williams of Mooresville, NC; and sister Faye Wolfe of Tigard, Ore.


  • Woodard, Debora Lynn Bailey

    Mass of Christian Burial for Debora Woodard will be at 11am Thursday at St Matthew’s Catholic Church with the Rev Cliff Jacobson officiating.
    Debora Lynn Woodard, 54, of Gillette passed away Friday, Sept 19, 2014, in the loving presence of her family after a courageous battle with lymphoma at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
    Deb was born April 22, 1960, to Mick and Dana Bailey in Superior, Montana. She was the second of three children. Deb grew up camping, fishing, riding motorcycles and snowmobiling with her two brothers, Mike and Gary. Deb grew up in Superior, and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1978.
    Deb married Rick Woodard July 8, 1978, in Superior. They made Superior their home with their daughter, Julie, and son, Nicholas, for two years, where Rick worked at the Diamond Match Lumber Mill and Mick Bailey trucking. Deb stayed home and raised her growing family.
    In 1980, they moved to Gillette, where Rick began his long-term employment at Cordero mine, and they soon added two more children to the family, Jess and Zach. Deb spent her days raising children, being an active member in the RCIA program at St Matthew's and could often be found at the lake enjoying the outdoors with a great book in her hands and the company of her lifelong friends and family.
    In September 1992, Deb entered the work force at Decker’s in the floral department. This was the beginning of her long career in the floral industry. Her passion for design and floral arranging led to her loving contribution for family weddings and special occasions.
    Deb later went to work at Great Western Auto and White’s Energy Motors as a car titlist, where she found a second family and cherished friendships.
    In February 1998, Deb was present as her family welcomed in the first grandchild. Many more were to follow and Deb cherished her role as a grandmother.
    Deb supported all her grandchildren in their hobbies, sports and educational events. One of her favorite things to do was to host a sleepover individually with each grandchild so they could enjoy special one-on one time. Deb never missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren and always had a listening ear and soft heart to support their sorrows.
    Deb is survived by her husband and her best friend of 36 years, Rick; their four children, Julie (Jeremy) Guernsey of Gillette, Nicholas (Jen) Woodard of Gillette, Jess (Jack) Harbison of Milliken, Colorado, and Zachary Woodard of Gillette; her grandchildren, Bailey, Nathaniel and Jacob Guernsey, Bella and Cooper Woodard and Jack and Sophie Harbison; and her siblings, Mike (Deb) Bailey and Gary (Gail) Bailey. Deb is also survived by many lifelong friends and extended family.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Mick and Dana Bailey; and grandparents, Herb and Lois Baker.
    The family would like to thank all the compassionate health care workers at Campbell County Memorial Hospital, the cancer center and the transitional care unit. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to Heptner Cancer Center.

  • Woxen, Harold Norman

    Harold Norman Woxen was born at Calcite, S D, on April 25, 1906. He moved with his parents to a homestead near Rockypoint, Wyoming, in the spring of 1910, and has lived there since till his death.
    He was taken sick on January 22nd, 1916, with inflamation of the brain and spine, and died March 19, 1916. He leaves his parents, Mr and Mrs Peter Woxen, and grandfather, Mr Gardner Beebe, and a foster brother at Rockypoint. Other near relatives live at Alzada, Montana, and Omaha, Nebraska.
    Mention was made of his death last week. Interment took place at Rockypoint on Tuesday. Rev Brown from Hulett being called to conduct last sad rites.
    The immediately neighborhood where he was known mourn with the parents in their affliction. He was a boy of great promise, and his death seems to us untimely. The primary cause was an accident from falling on the ice. Every effort possible to the parents was made, and physicians consulted and spent their skill to save him, but not so. He could not recover from the injury.
