When George Heller passed away last month he left a record of service not often matched, and although he was born in Hungary in 1853, and came to America and Sheboygan when still very young, his first business experience was with F. G. Lintz at what was then known as Lintz's Pier, situated several miles north of Sheboygan, on Lake Michigan. In 1870 he entered the employ of the German bank, now known as the Security National bank, in which he gradually advanced from errand boy to president, from which latter position he retired January 1, 1934, having "made" his way upward, first as assistant cashier, then cashier, then vice=president, and finally as president, in 1933, his connection with the bank having covered a period of sixty-three years without a break.

Many years of Mr. Heller's long life he also found time to devote to civic activities. From 1886 to 1915 he served as public school commissioner, and for a number of years he was also superintendent and secretary. He was repeatedly elected president of the school board, from which he retired with great honor. From 1893 to 1896 he was a member of the board of regents of the University of Wisconsin and from 1896 until the time of his demise he was a member of the Sheboygan Library board.

Mr. Heller's leisure hours were spent mostly at his home, where he lived happily with his wife and children. Mrs. Heller was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koch, Sheboygan pioneers. During the first years of their married life the couple lived next door to ye editor's family on Center street (now avenue), and this close proximity afforded opportunity for observing amicable relations. Mrs. Heller passed on in the summer of 1931, followed by one daughter, Mrs. Theodore Schmidtmann, of Manitowoc. The surviving children are Mrs. Theodore Benfey, Mrs. Herman F. Roenitz, and George Heller, Jr., all of Sheboygan.

During his long career as an employee of his bank Mr. Heller served under four presidents of that institution, George F. Cole, James H. Mead, Fred Karste, and William Rietow, and even the oldest yet living pioneer of Sheboygan city and county remember George Heller's pleasant face and personality very well. He was always of cheerful disposition and handled even the most serious financial problems with a cheerful countenance.
