Sheboygan Pioneer Monthly Supplement

First Pioneer's Great-Grandchildren

Harold Farnsworth of Sheboygan has the distinction of being a great-grandson of the man who first settled in our community, William Farnsworth, who was a victim of the Lady Elgin steamboat disaster, in 1861, and who now rests in Wildwood cemetery. Harold has two brothers and a sister still living, one brother, William, having come to Sheboygan to attend the Centennial and Homecoming.

The father of the present Farnsworth generation was William, who was know as "Captain," operating successively the Bellevue, the Grand and the Lakeview hotels. His father was George Farnsworth, grandson of the pioneer, William Farnsworth.

While Sheboygan numbers even fourth and fifth generations of pioneer descendants, it must be remembered that the original William Farnsworth was the first man to settle down in what is now this community, and William (IV) Farnsworth's visit here for the Centennial and Homecoming is therefore made conspicuous. He is now manager of a big manufacturing concern in Lansing, Michigan.
