August H. Grube

August H. Grube, of the firm of Grube Bros., dealers in boots and shoes, was born in Lahenberg., Hanover, Germany, January, 1857. When three years of age he came with his parents, Louis and Lizzie Grube, to the United States. His education was received in the public schools of Sheboygan. When fourteen years of age, he commenced to learn the trade of shoemaker, serving two years as an apprentice. The succeeding eight years he traveled and worked at his trade. Returning to the Evergreen City, he manufactured boots and shoes for Mr. Wolf and sold them on the road. When the business was sold to Theodore Zschetzsche & Son, Mr. Grube continued as foreman. The last two years he traveled on the road for that firm. In 1891 he joined his brother in the boot and shoe business, in which they have since been continuously engaged.

Mr. Grube was married in Sheboygan Falls, July 6, 1879, to Miss Lizzie Hemschmeyer, who has become the mother of six children: Carrie (who died in infancy), Harry, Jennie, Grover C., Fred and August.

In politics, Mr. Grube is independent. Socially, he belongs to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and to the Patriarchal Circle.
