Louis J. Kaestner, dealer in boots and shoes at Plymouth, established business here first in his present line, in company with a brother, in 1877, as successors to their father. He is a native of Plymouth, his birth having occurred in that city on the 29th of April, 1853, his parents being Ernst and Catherine (Schneifer) Kaestner, who were pioneer settlers of Plymouth, where his father was one of the first to open a shoe store. The subject of this article was reared and educated in Plymouth, and there learned the trade of shoemaker in his father's shop. In 1877, in company with his brother William, he bought out his father, and conducted the business for five years. In 1882 they surrendered the business to the father, but in 1885 our subject again resumed business at the old stand, which he has continued until the present time, 1893.

Mr. Kaestner was married in Plymouth, October 9, 1878, the lady of his choice being Miss Agnes Rosenfeld, a daughter of Robert and Bertha Rosenfeld, of whom see biography elsewhere. Mrs. Kaestner is also a native of Plymouth, where her parents were early settlers. Mr. and Mrs. Kaestner have one child, a son, Walter L., whose birth occurred December 31, 1879.

In his political views, Mr. Kaestner is a Democrat, and, socially, he is a member of Hiawatha Council, No. 520, R. A., and of Plymouth Camp, No. 724, M. W. of A. Mr. Kaestner has been identified with the business and social progress of Plymouth during his entire life, and is a man highly respected by all who know him.
