Ottawa, Ill., April 1, 1853, and is a son of Joseph W. and Alice (Champney) Dow. (See sketch of the father

On leaving school he served as Assistant Postmaster at Ottawa for a time, and then entered the bank of Dow &
Tillson, later the First National Bank of Marseilles, where he served as clerk and Assistant Cashier, continuing
that connection until early in 1873, when he removed to Sheboygan, Wis., and served as clerk and book-keeper in the
First National Bank of that city until December 1 of that year, when he came to Plymouth. In the latter place he
joined his father in establishing the present State Bank, under the firm name of Dow & Son, of which he was
Cashier. On the 1st of October, 1890, they incorporated the bank under its present name of the State Bank, Mr. Dow,

employs an average of twenty-five men, and has built up a prosperous and growing business.
On the 25th of December, 1876, Mr. Dow was married at Plymouth to Miss Ida J., a daughter of Robert H. Hotchkiss.
