Cord Boedecker is a practical farmer and one of the pioneers of Herman Township. For long years he has made his
home on section 32, where he has developed a good farm from the wilderness. He was born in Hohenhausen, Germany,
April 15, 1815, and is a son of Cord and Anna Maria (Kramfe) Boedecker. The father was a Tax Collector in the
Fatherland, and with his family left Bremen, in April, 1849, for America, where they arrived at the end of a
thirty-one-days voyage.
Our subject is one of a family of five children, four sons and a daughter. Before leaving Germany in 1849, he
married Wilhelmine Uhlenmeyer, whose parents died in that country. She was born February 9, 1820, in Achternhagen.
By this marriage were born six children. Henry served in the Twenty-seventh Wisconsin Infantry and died in 1866;
Wilhelmine, who died in 1889, was the wife of Simon Fasse; Frederick wedded Caroline Klenne and has six children;
Charlotte became the wife of Conrad Johanning, who is a farmer of Herman Township; Fredericka married Carl
Sanderman, of Jasper County, Iowa; and Sophia died when in her twenty-eighth year.
With the other members of his father's family, Mr. Boedecker settled in Sheboygan County, where he bought three
hundred and twenty acres of timber-land. He cleared some one hundred and twenty acres, and built a log house, where
they lived in true pioneer style for many years. Both he and his wife have been hard workers, and have thus
acquired a valuable property, which enables them to enjoy their declining years in peace and comfort. For a period
of twelve years Mr. Boedecker has been Assessor of the Town of Herman Fire Insurance Company. In politics, he votes
with the Republican party. He has contributed labor and money toward the upbuilding of the Mission House, and has
been Elder of the same for twenty-five years. He and his family are members of the Reformed Church of the United
States.
