Albert Bachmann, Secretary and Treasurer of the Kohler, Hayssen & Stehn Manufacturing Company, is a native of the liberty-loving little republic of Switzerland. He was born near the city of Glarus, canton of Glarus, February 9, 1861. His parents, Frederick and Elizabeth (Pfister) Bachmann, were born in the canton of Zurich, from which place they emigrated to Glarus. For a livelihood the father worked at the tanner's trade for many years, and later in keeping hotel. In 1868 the family, consisting of the parents and two children, came to the United States, and after living for two years in St. Louis went to Milwaukee, Wis. In that city the father passed his last days, and the mother still makes her home there.

Mr. Bachmann whose name heads this record received his scholastic training in the public schools and in the Engelman School of Milwaukee. When sixteen years of age he commenced to learn the trade of machinist, and four years later he came to Sheboygan and worked in the shops of the company with which he is now officially connected. Subsequently, he was promoted to be book-keeper, and on the incorporation of the company in 1887 he was made Secretary and Treasurer, holding that position continuously since. He is also Secretary and Treasurer of the Sheboygan Opera House.

Mr. Backmann chose for a companion in life Miss Emma, daughter of Leonard Schlicht, the wedding ceremony being performed in Sheboygan, May 12, 1886. Of this union have been born two children: Hazel E. Rosalyn and Harold Albert.

In his political views, Mr. Bachmann is an uncompromising Republican, and, socially, he is a Master Mason. He is an energetic and trustworthy business man, as is fully evinced by the responsible positions he holds.
