John B. Grievink, deceased, was born August 14, 1848, in the Netherlands. At an early period in his life he emigrated with his parents to this country and settled at Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, where his parents passed the remainder of their lives. He remained under the parental roof until the time of his marriage and immediately thereafter he removed to Wilson township, where he purchased a farm of sixty-five acres upon which he established his home and was continuously engaged in general farming until his death, which occurred on October 17, 1905.

On September 17, 1877, Mr. Grievink was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Roerdink, a daughter of Herman and Bernadine (Vervelde) Roerdink. Mrs. Roerdink is a native of the Netherlands, her birth having occurred in that country, September 12, 1851. She emigrated to this country with her mother in 1855, the father and one son having died on board the ship during the voyage and were buried at sea. The mother with her five remaining children on reaching America established her home in Sheboygan Falls. One of the sons, William Roerdink, later enlisted in the Civil war, joining Company A, Thirty-second Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and died in an army hospital while in the service of his country. To Mr. and Mrs. Grievink were born four children of whom two are deceased. The others are: Lydia, the wife of Martin Nysse, of Wilson township; and Henry, who resides at home with his mother.

John B. Grievink was one of the highly respected and greatly esteemed citizens of Wilson township. He was one of the enterprising and successful farmers in his locality and was ready at all times to give his assistance to the furtherance of any public enterprise intended to advance and improve the conditions of the people.
