Oscar F. Huhn

Oscar F. Huhn, the efficient City Clerk of Sheboygan, was formerly Principal of the Eighth Ward public school of that city, the time of such service having been from 1886 to 1891. Mr. Huhn was born in Centerville, Manitowoc County, Wis., October 2, 1863. His father, Ferdinand Huhn, is a native of Saxony, and came to this country as a youth, in 1848, and his father, the grandfather of the subject of this sketch. The grandfather has passed away, but Ferdinand Huhn still resides on the old homestead in Manitowoc County, where his father settled forty-five years ago. The maiden name of the mother of Mr. Huhn was Henrietta Miller.

Oscar F. Huhn is one of nine children, consisting of four brothers and five sisters. One brother, Ernst, was drowned in the Milwaukee River, while bathing, in July, 1890, at the age of nineteen years. Oscar grew to manhood in Manitowoc County and received his early education at the district school. In 1879 he entered the State Normal School at Oshkosh. He attended school and taught alternately, graduating in the Class of `86.

Mr. Huhn resigned his position as Principal of the Eighth Ward School in July, 1891, and was engaged in a variety of clerical work, including that of assistant journal clerk in the Legislature, until the spring of 1893, when he was elected to his present position.

Mr. Huhn was married in Sheboygan, December 24, 1889, to Miss Otillia Abele. They have one child, Winifred.

In his political affiliation our subject is a Democrat, and is a young man of excellent attainments. He was a successful educator and is a popular and able official.
