In early manhood Fred W. Lindow bought his present farm of one hundred and twenty acres near Plymouth, and has since made this his home. His farm, which is in an excellent state of Cultivation and upon which he has erected fine improvements, is an excellent argricultural property. He makes a specialty of dairying, a vocation in which he is successful, his product finding a ready sale on account if its excellence. He was born in the town of Rhine, Sheboygan county, May 30, 1859, a son of Carl F. and Charlotta (Schauen) Lindow, both natives of Germany, where the father was born in 1813 and the mother in 1818. Their wedding was celebrated in the fatherland and the family emigrated to the new world in 1858, settling in Sheboygan county. The father, who was a carpenter and farmer, purchased various tracts of land upon which he lived, his last purchase being one hundred acres on the present site of Rhine, where he resided until his death, which occurred in 1868. The mother long survived him, passing away in 1906. To them were born seven children, four of whom are now living.

Fred W. Lindow was educated in the district schools near his father's home but at the early age of twelve years laid aside his text-books and began working for a neighboring farmer, being engaged in farm work until the time of his marriage, when he purchased a farm of one hundred and eight acres upon which he has since lived. He has made a specialty of dairying and , having given his business strict attention, his product has always found a ready sale and he has been known as one of the best dairy farmers of the community. Upon the farm on which he resides and where his children have all been born has been erected a cheese factory which belongs to his son.

Mr. Lindow was married, June 21, 1882, to Miss Ricky Uplegger, a daughter of Henry Uplegger, a farmer who came to the United States in 1867, settling in Sheboygan County. Unto Mr. & Mrs. Lindow have been born seven children, namely: Hulda, who was born in 1883, and who for ten years has taught in the graded schools of Sheboygan County; William, who was born in 1885 and married Minnie Mohs and is the father of one child; Henry, who was born in 1887 and is yet at home; Laura, deceased, who was born in 1888, became the wife of August Luedtke and had one child, Walter; Emma, born in 1893; Edmund, born in 1901, and Helen, whose birth occurred in 1907, all of whom are at home.

In his political faith Mr. Lindow is a republican but his attention is chiefly given to his business although he has taken a commendable interest in public affairs. He is a member is the Lutheran church, in the faith of which he has been reared, and his family are regular attendants at the services of that denomination. He is well known in his community and his reputation for integrity as well as business ability is unquestioned. He is esteemed very highly among his circle of business and social friends and the family stands high in the community.
