Henry C. Hoppe, dealer in watches, clocks and jewelry in Sheboygan, is a native of the county and a son of Frederick Hoppe, an honored pioneer, who is mentioned elsewhere in this work.

Mr. Hoppe was born in the town of Rhine, September 5, 1863. Until eleven years of age he lived on a farm, receiving such education as the district schools then afforded. Subsequently, he graduated from the Sheboygan High School. When thirteen years of age, he began to learn the jeweler's trade, serving three years with Adam Imig. For two years thereafter he worked in St. Paul, Minn., and for an equal length of time in Chicago. Returning to his native city, he was appointed receiver of a crockery store by the Bank of Sheboygan. Iu connection with that business, he assisted his father in insurance. In December, 1885, he opened up a jewelry business on his own account, having carried it on continuously since.

Mr. Hoppe and Miss Matilda, daughter of Charles Hanf, were married September 7, 1886. The wedding took place in the Chair City, the birthplace of the bride. To the young couple has been bom one child, Lillie Ida.

Mr. Hoppe is a Democrat in politics, and socially is identified with a number of societies, such as the Knights of Maccabees and National Union; also with societies for aiding the sick and forwarding the interests of the laboring men. In his business relations, Mr. Hoppe is courteous and social, thereby winning friends and a liberal share of patronage.
