One of the energetic and respected young agriculturists of Centerville township is Hugo Dhein, who is operating his farm of one hundred and twenty acres, upon which he has lived since boyhood. He has a thorough knowledge of his business and is successfully handling all its details. He was born in Mosel township, Sheboygan county, October 25, 1881, the son of Joseph Dhein, a native of Sheboygan county, whose parents emigrated to the new world in 1848. On coming to this country the grandparents took up agricultural pursuits and in 1882, Joseph Dhein settled in Manitowoc county on a farm which originally contained eighty acres. He later increased his holdings to one hundred and twenty acres and is still a resident of Centerville township.

The eldest in a family of three children, Hugo Dhein was reared on a farm and is indebted to the common schools of the community and St. Wendel's parochial school for the educational advantages he enjoyed. He assisted his father with the farm work until 1907, when he started in farming on his own account on the old homestead, where he has since lived. He is cultivating the entire place of one hundred and twenty acres and handles it in a very successful manner.

On April 16, 1905, Mr. Dhein was united in marriage to Miss Lena Leonhard, a daughter of George and Genevieve Leonhard, both of whom were natives of Germany. The father on coming to this country engaged in agricultural pursuits, an occupation which he has always followed. To Mr. and Mrs. Dhein three children have been born: Elbert, Elnora and Joseph. The members of the family are affiliated with the Catholic church. Mr. Dhein has always given his undivided attention to his agricultural pursuits, finding very little time to devote to other matters, yet he takes a genuine interest in measures affecting the welfare of the state and votes with the democratic party. He is recognized as being among the better class of farmers of his community and his life is such that he is universally respected wherever known and particularly esteemed by his close personal friends.
