Jacob L. Wiesner, who is engaged in the hardware business in Sawyer, was born in Nasewaupee township, this county, May 16, 1884, a son of George and Amy (Sperber) Wiesner, both of whom were natives of Washington county, Wisconsin, where they were reared, educated and married. In 1878 they removed to Door county, where the father took up the occupation of farming, to which he devoted more than three decades. He then retired from active agricultural life and in 1909 removed to Sheboygan, where he now makes his home.

During the period of his boyhood and youth, spent upon the old home farm, Jacob L. Wiesner divided his time between the duties of the schoolroom, the pleasures of the playground and the work of the fields and when he started out in the business world he secured a clerkship with the Scofield Hardware Company of Sturgeon Bay in 1903. He there received thorough training, becoming familiar with every phase of the business, and at length he opened a store on his own account in Sawyer in 1912, now having the second largest store in the city. He carries a well selected line of shelf and heavy hardware and is prepared to meet the demands for almost anything in that line of trade.

In 1907 Mr. Wiesner was joined in wedlock to Miss Alice Stroobants, of Brussels township, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stroobants, and they have three children, a daughter and two sons, Gertrude, Kenneth and Sydney. Mr. Wiesner belongs to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and he votes with the republican party, to which he has given his support since age conferred upon him the right of franchise. In 1911 he was appointed alderman from the fourth ward and since that time has been twice elected to the position. He has also been a member of the library board for the past eighteen months and his city finds him a substantial resident, loyal to all those interests which are a matter of civic virtue and civic pride. In business, too, he has made a creditable record, his course being characterized by steady progress, resulting from his close application and unremitting industry.
