Amos Millers, Elkhart Lake, Mark Golden Wedding Event


Mr. and Mrs. Amos Miller, R. 1, Elkhart Lake, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday with a large open house gathering at Rhine Center Hall in the afternoon and evening.

Approximately 300 guests attended the day's festivities, which included a buffet supper at 6 o'clock, followed by dancing later in the evening.

Relatives and friends were present from De Kalb, Ill., Lake Geneva, Janesville, Genoa City, Sauk City, Neenah, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Spencer, Abbotsford, Colby, Ripon, Brookfield, Oshkosh, Brillion, Kiel, New Holstein, Valders, Belgium, Fredonia and Cleveland.

Several money trees, designed in the golden wedding theme, were among the many gifts presented to the celebrants.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Miller are natives of Manitowoc County. The former Miss Matilda Neuhaus, Mrs. Neuhaus was born in Newton, Aril 1, 1896, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Neuhaus. Mr. Miller's birth date is April 20, 1895. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller.

The couple's wedding took place Aug. 12, 1915 at Curtiss, Wis., with the Rev. A. George Schmidt officiating. One of the attendants, Mrs. Carl Roewe of Colby, formerly Miss Norma Miller, was present at the golden wedding observance.

Mr. Miller worked as an auto mechanic until 1931, after which he established a livestock trucking business, which he operated until 1953. Until his retirement in 1963, he was part owner of Amos Miller & Sons, an implement business in Plymouth.

Bethel United Church of Christ at R. 1, Elkhart Lake, is the Miller's church affiliation.

The five sons and three daughters, comprising the family of Mr. and Mrs. Miller, were present for the celebration.

They are: Mrs. Lee (Elda) Laabs, Glenbeulah; Harold Miller, New Holstein; Mrs. Harold (Verna) Hueppchen, R. 1, Waldo; William H. Miller, R. 1, Elkhart Lake; Arnold Miller, Plymouth; Mrs. Orville (Arlene) Boeldt, Plymouth; Melvin Miller, McLean, Va., and Eugene Miller, Appleton.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller also have 22 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Favorite hobbies of the golden wedding pair are card playing and traveling; watching television is another source of enjoyment of them.
