50th Event of Marriage Marked by Plymouth Couple


Approximately 350 relatives and friends were present when Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Back, R. 1, Plymouth, observed their golden wedding anniversary, Sunday afternoon, at Waldo United Methodist Church.

The event was begun with a noon dinner for the famly of the celebrants, followed by the open house observance. Decorations were in appropriate gold motif.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Back are members of the church and the latter is affiliated with its Women's Society for Christian Service. He served as past clerk of Bonnie View School for 18 years and is amember of Ladwig Zinkgraf American Legion Post at Plymouth.

Marriage of the former Norma Waterman and Mr. Back took place, April 8, 1919, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Waterman, where the anniversary celelbrants continue to reside. Mrs. Back was born on the same farm, March 8, 1898.

Town of Greenbush was the birthplace of the other principal in the anniversary observance, March 21, 1894. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Back. The celebrants are engaged in farming.

Mrs. Florence Back Wittkopp and Ralph Waterman were attendants at the original wedding who were present for the 50th event.

Family of the honored couple includes two daughters, Mrs. Earl {Marion} Baumann, R. 1, Plymouth, and Mrs. Roger {Shirley} Lubach of Plymouth. Also, there are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in the Back family circle.

Among grandsons of the couple who were unable to attend the anniversary observance are George Baumann and Steven Lubach, both of whom are serving with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam.

Skat and sheepshead are included in the special interests of the anniversary bridegroom and his wife enjoys sewing and making quilts.
