In Winfield on the 21st inst, Clara A., daughter of Z. and E. D. Craker, aged 15 years 3 months and 2 days. Oh cruel death! couldst thou not spare Our gentle sister, young and fair! Oh! couldst thou not some merry show, And leave her, when we love her so? Great God! hadst thou no power to save Our Clara from an early grave? Then why afflict us so severe? How can we live without her here? Our home is filled with deepest gloom, For she lies buried in the tomb! No more we'll hear her voice, we'er left alone. 'Tis hard to say, "Thy will be done." Helen

GROVER--
In Ironton, Dec. 28th, 1872, Mrs. Maria Grover, aged 52 years and 5 days. Mrs. Grover was born in New York, came with her parents to Ohio when quite small; was married there, to Wm. Grover; and after the death of her husband, migrated, with her eight children, to this county, where she has since resided. The deceased, early in life, became a member of the Christian Church, and ever after made it her aim to live up to the truths of the Christian religion. About a year ago she was visited by a stroke of palsy, and she has been a great sufferer since that time. Her children, with one exception, were with her during her last severe sickness, and endeavored to make her last hours as comfortable as possible. With full belief in the efficiency of the Cross, and with the buoyant hope of a future blessedness, she passed quietly from earth; her departure being mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends.

GREGORY--
In the town of Summit, Juneau Co., Wis., on Sunday morning, Oct. 6th, 1872, Ezra Gregory, aged 78 years. EZRA GREGORY was born in what was known as the town of Old Harpersfield, Delaware{sic} Co., N.Y., October 15th, 1794. With his parents, in company with three other families, moved to Ohio, and June 27th, 1797, settled in Ashtubula Co., which was at that time a wilderness--they living that Summer in houses covered with bark. The greater part of his life was spent in Ohio, where he filled many public offices of trust and usefulness. He came to Cold Spring, Jefferson Co., Wis., in the Winter of 1847; removing to Sauk Co., and settling in what is now Winfield, May 29, 1852. He was the last of a family of eleven children who lived to be men and women of families. At early dawn on Sunday, Oct. 6th, his spirit passed on to the higher life, to join the loved ones gone before. His widow and five, of seven children, were present to follow his remains to their last resting place. He was for fifty-eight years,l a member of the Methodist Church, having joined it when only twenty years of age. And thus has passed from our midst, another of the old pioneers and there is "Another low green tent whose curtain never outward swings." We shall see no more the kindly, genial old man, from whose face his seventy-eight years with all their cares had never blotted the look of cheerfulness and good will towards all mankind sure index of the warm heart that beat beneath; even the Indians instinctively felt it; for many years they came to him like children to a father, sure of sympathy and assistance. Memories of his honorable, useful life, his broad hospitality, warm, charitable heart, together with many other virtues, still live for children and friends to emulate. They cannot die, even though in the words he so often sang: "The same hand that led him through scenes dark and drear. Has kindly conducted him home." H. C. E.

PERRY--
Died at Reedsburg, on Wednesday, December 4th, 1872, at 5 o'clock P.M., Edna A. Perry, oldest daughter of O. H. and Mary J. Perry, aged 20 years 7 months and 22 days. The reaper Death has again been at work among us, and has cut down one of the choicest flowers not only of a family, but of a community. Edna Perry is dead! This is the message that passed, with lightening rapidity, from mouth to mouth yesterday, soon after noon. Although the report was false at the time, it became only too true when, with the setting sun, her spirit took its flight to another and, we hope a better world. It is useless to enter into any eulogistic remards of the deceased; for did not every body in the community know her? Being one of the first children born in this place, she had grown up among this people to become an ornament to family and society; ever pleasant and joyful; ever ready to lend a helping hand where help was needed, ever mindful of the fact that our lives are useful only as far as we do to others as we would have them do to us. She has gone, never to return. In the schoolroom, we shall miss her; in the choir her chair will be vacant; at our social gatherings no more will her voice be heard. Dead! Gone for ever! And so young! Can it be? It seems hardly possible, but such is God's decree; let us bow our heads in submission! Dec. 5th, 1872 A. E.
