General Notes: Joe immigrated in the year of 1885 on the ship S. S. Bohemian, embarking April 2, 1885 from Hamburg, Germany, and arriving April 18, 1885, in New York. In reality a short journey of only 16 days. Most trips of those days were up to and beyond 6 weeks. He was following his brother Mike who had come a couple of years earlier. He made his way to Wisconsin, to Oconto Co.
Joe and his brother engaged in logging, something he would do for most of his life besides farming. To them, this was a better life then what they had in Germany.
Germany at that time was in turmoil and then people had to register with their town and government so they would be accountable if war was to come or if the young men were needed in the armies of Germany. At that time if you moved from one farm to another you had to re-register with the government. This is something they had run away from and the reason they came to America, to be free men. It is said they left besides a mother and father, a brother named Wolfgram.
Joe had kept in contact hoping to bring his family here, but after some time war had broken out in Germany and all contact was lost with the rest of his family.

To this day with records closed for most except researchers of the area of Bavaria, I am unable to find the rest of this family, but I am going to keep searching until I find the family.
