Unlike the nearby man made lakes, Anderson and Green Lakes are natural formations that have attracted people for hundreds of years. The pre-settlement Native American residents fished and relaxed along the shores much as those who have come to Oconto County since. Fur traders paddled the waters, followed by the lumbermen who harvested the Pines along the shores. Then the farmers cultivated the land and used the lakes as sources of food and recreation. These lakes are found between the villages of Mountain to the northwest and Breed to the southeast. Resorts and restaurants, have been established for over one hundred years and hold many fine memories for those who fished, hunted, relaxed, honeymooned, celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, danced until dawn or participated in almost any other recreational activity you can think of. |
