Mountain Memories

Oconto Falls-Funeral services for Mrs. James R. Volk were conducted at the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, with the O'Neill funeral home in charge of arrangements. The Rev. John P. Simon and the Rev. David Johnson of Madison, officiated and burial took place in the family lot in the Volk Family cemetery. The casket was carried by Bernard, Thorpe, and Loval Bunn, John Dobbertin, Albert Gillis and Edwin Kain. The Rev. Mr. Johnson is a former pastor of the Falls Methodist church.

Mrs. Volk, who was 79 years of age, died at the Pine Manor Rest Home at Embarrass on Thursday morning. She had been a resident of Oconto Falls for many years. Mr. Volk died in June of 1946.

Mrs. Volk is survived by two daughters, Hazel, Mrs. Edward Wranovsky of Shawano, and Miss Emily Volk of Two Rivers; three sons, Norman of LaFayette, Ind., Garth of Worthington, Ohio, and Gaylord of Gainesville, Florida. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Henry Kingston of Stambaugh, Mich., Miss Adele McKenney of Port Washington, and Mrs. Leo Polzin of Green Bay; two brothers, H.L. McKenney of Auburn, Ind., and W.L. McKenney of Waukesha.

Although she maintained her membership in the church of Christ at Hickory, where she grew to womanhood, Mrs. Volk was active in the Methodist church in Oconto Falls throughout her residence here. She will be remembered by many as a teacher of a class of boys for a number of years in the Methodist church school. She was a kindly neighbor and friend, and the memory of Mrs. Volk always will be a blessed one.

Mrs. Henry (Viola McKenney) Kingston

Mrs. Henry Kingston, 91, former Oconto County resident passed away Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Hospital, Oshkosh. The former Viola McKenney was born Jan. 18, 1878, in Oconto, and grew up on a farm in the town of Maple Valley. She married Henry Kingston, Mar. 10, 1898 and from then until September of 1920, they resided at Mountain, where Mr. Kingston became a well known logger.

In 1920 the couple moved to Marinette where they lived until 1940. They then moved to Stambaugh, Mich. where Mr. Kingston established a saw mill. Mr. Kingston preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1945. She lived at Stambaugh until January of 1968. She was a charter member of the Christian Church at Hickory and was very instrumental in the establishment of the Christian Church, Mountain.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Eysten (Olive) Andersen, Miami Lakes, Fla.; one son, Lyle, Green Bay; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Polzin; Addell McKenney, both of Oshkosh; one brother, William, Waukesha; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. One son, Russell, died Nov. 4, 1968, at Key Largo, Fla.

At Soulek Funeral Home, Suring, after 2 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services Friday at Christian Church, Hickory. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Mrs. Beaucock Dies in Oconto

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday for Mrs. Winifred Beaucock, 66, Pensaukee, who died Friday in the Oconto Hospital of a heart attack.

The former Winifred Snyder, a member of the First Presbyterian church ladies auxiliary and Rebekah lodge, was a teacher before her marriage to Leigh Beaucock Dec. 23, 1919. He preceded her in death in 1940.

The body lay in state from 7 p.m. Sunday at the Gallagher Funeral home, and Rebekah services were held at 8 a.m. The Rev. Newton Robert officiated at the funeral rites in First Presbyterian church, Oconto, and burial was in the Brookside cemetery.

Mrs. Beaucock is survived by a daughter, Rita, Mrs. Kermit Leonard, Pensaukee, two brothers, William Snyder and John Snyder both of Pensaukee; and sister, Mrs. Meredith Sawer. Menominee, Mich. and two grandchildren. She married Leigh BEAUCOCK in Wisconsin, 23 Dec. 1919.

                            Leigh was born Oconto Co., WI. July 1890. Leigh was the son of William M. BEAUCOCK and Genevieve "Jennie" Lydia MCKENNEY. Leigh died March 1957 at 66 years of age. Leigh is enumerated on 1930 census with his given name spelled Lee, age 38, born in Wisconsin as were his parents, married at age 28 to Winifred age 32 married at age 22. His occupation fisherman. The census confirms recorded information on their children. The family is enumerated between Frank Livermore and Raymond Swaer.
           31    iv. John Joshua SNYDER was born Pensaukee, Wisconsin 1900. He married Lillian (?) SNYDER. Enumerated on 1930 census in town of Pensaukee, occupation farming and fishing. John is age 30 married at age 25, to Lillian, age 28 married at age 23. The have a son Eugene who is age 2 yrs and 4 mo.
