HAYES
Charles HEISE is building a new brickyard - four carpenters are at work.
Five teams of the Chase & Tilton Lumber Co. are hauling lumber
to Suring for shipment.
November 4, 1898
The mother and a sister of Chris RADATZ, from Janesville, have been
visiting him.
Charles SURING has gone to Gillett's camp to work for the coming winter.
T.W. BROWNELL, from Appleton, has been here several weeks looking after
his real estate and visiting old friends. Mr. BROWNELL was one of the first
settlers in the town of How.
Leo HISCHKE recently lost a valuable horse.
Last Sunday, Herman and Robert YAKEL were called to Embarrass by the
illness of their mother.
Frederick SASSE and Louis KRAKE of Bonduel, Hilbert HANKWITZ, Otto
SCHOSS and Robert YAKEL went up north last Monday for a deer hunt. Otto
will do the cooking.
Louis SURING raised a log barn last Wednesday.
Robert PETHKE and wife are improving in health. Mr. PETHKE was ill
in bed about two months.
John DEEDE is also getting over his sickness. He was laid up ten weeks.
Robert GRIGNON of the Town of How and Hugh PARKER of Spruce closed
a contract yesterday with the Holt Lumber Co. to put in 1,000,000 ft. on
the head waters of the North Branch - farther up than logging has ever

December 2, 1898
The family of Charles WEISE moved here from Milwaukee last week.
Frank KANTZ and Fred KRUEGER of Bonduel are working for Albert GERNDT,
putting in hemlock logs.
Joseph MESSOR returned home on Nov. 20th from hunting and brought 4
or 5 deer which were shot by himself and some Green Bay men.
Paul SCHUETTPELZ has returned from Fond du Lac County.
Albert GERNDT has been to New London looking after his farm.
The whistle of the mill was heard the first time on Nov. 30th after
the mill had been shut down for several months. All new machinery has been
put in.
Yesterday, Nov. 29th, the first sleigh riding was enjoyed.
Whooping cough is prevalent among the children. Several are prevented
from going to school.
December 9, 1898
On December lst the wife of Herman ELFE died in child bed and later
was buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery. Her age was 29 years. She leaves
her husband and seven children, also a mother and five brothers.
Richard, August and Bertha GARDEBRECHT returned to their home after
a protracted absence in Door County.
Peter MILLER started another camp for F.B. Chase and will employ about
25 men. Mr. MILLER is a practical cruiser and lumberman, a haul of only
a mile and a quarter will be necessary.
