End Half-Century of Marriage

Wm. Wittmanns To Celebrate Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wittmann, longtime residents of this city,
are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Easter
Sunday.  They will be at home to their many friends all day
and will entertain about fifty relatives at dinner at noon.

Thirty seven years of continuing residence in Oconto Falls has
resulted in a wealth of warm friends for this splendid pair.
They have both contributed much to the development of our
community as they have taken active parts in all progressive
activities.

The Wittmanns were married April 14, 1891 in Holy Cross church
in Kaukauna by the Rev. Julius Rhode.  Miss Lena Newhouse and
Henry Wittmann, the latter a brother of the groom, were the
attendants at the wedding.  Mr. Wittmann was born on December
10th, 1869 in Smithtown, Illinois, and Mrs. Wittmann was born
March 2nd, 1872 at Freedom, Wisconsin.

Civic responsibilities were carried by Mr. Wittmann when he
served the town as treasurer and later as alderman four years
from the third ward.  Since coming to Oconto Falls thirty
seven years ago, he followed the trade of tinsmith and
plumber.

Mrs. Wittmann is an excellent nurse and in the pre-hospital
days cared for many a patient through a period of illness.
Over eighty citizens born here received their first bath and
were dressed in their first garments by the capable hands of
Mrs. Wittmann.

She is president of the Woman’s Benefit Association, having
held this office for the past 17 years.  She is a charter
member of the American Legion Auxiliary, its present
sergeant-at-arms and Child Welfare chairman.  Mrs. Wittmann
was also president of the now disbanded McKinley Circle of the
Ladies of the Grand Army for many years.

This fine couple have raised a family of three daughters and
two sons.  Bertha, Mrs. Louis Steckel;  Ann, Mrs. W.E. Wilson;
and Grace, Mrs. Ed Williams, all reside in Milwaukee;  Norman
in North Bergen, N.J., and Lloyd, here in Oconto Falls.  There
are eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, one week
old Judith Ann Rohleder.

The Herald takes this opportunity to wish the Wittmanns
hearties congratulations and sincere good wishes for many
years of happiness and continued health.
