Miss Estelle R. Waldron of Oconto Falls announces her candidacy this week for county superintendent of schools in Oconto County.  Miss Wasdron is from a family of teachers.  She was born and reared in Oconto County.  Her parents were pioneer settlers of the Town of Chase, where she attended the common school until moving to Oconto Falls where she graduated from high school.  After finishing high school she graduated from Stephenson Training School, Marinette, and taught four years in the rural schools of Oconto County and one year at Wabeno in Forest county.  She then graduated from the Milwaukee State Teachers college.  After graduation she taught the following Junior High schools, three years at Harvard, Ill., one year in Dallas, Oregon; one year in Harlowton, Mont., and two years at Benton Harbor, Mich.  She was principal of a state graded school at Elm Grove, Wis., for four years.  She has taken extra work toward her degree at the Kalamazoo State Teachers college, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Milwaukee State Teachers college, Milwaukee.  She has written articles for Normal Instructor and Primary Plans an educational magazine.  Miss Waldron invented and has used a specially designed easel for art work in her schools.  She is the only cndidate from Oconto Falls.

Thielkes Observe 50th Anniversary
Golden Wedding Celebration at “Falls” Wednesday.

OCONTO FALLS, Wis – Mr. and Mrs. Napoleon Thielke of this city
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the home of
their daughter, Mrs. Melvin Broetzman Wednesday.  Mass was said
in the morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic church by the Rev. F.
J. Melchiors and wedding  dinner and supper were served to 125
guests, including friends from Suring, Kaukauna, Kewaunee,
Oconto Falls, Green Bay and Bear Creek.

Mr. Thielke was born in Green Bay, Dec. 11, 1863, and Mrs.
Thielke (nee: Margaret Flannigan) was born at Bear Creek Nov. 15, 1864.
They were married at Shawano, June 16,  1887 by the Rev. F. Norbert.
They settled on a farm at Bear Creek where they lived until
1909 when they came to Suring and settled on another farm.
They retired in 1933 and came to live in this city.

They are the parents of seven living children, Mrs. John H(?)
Leonard, Coleman; Gilbert, Lakewood; John, Pound; Mrs. Charles
Mathys, Kewaunee; Mrs. Raymond Nelson, town of Oconto Falls,
and Mrs. Melvin Broetzman, Hickory.  They have 16
grandchildren.  All the children and their families were
present at the celebration.

Mrs. Thielke’s two sisters, Mrs. M. Long and Mrs. A.
Cunningham, Clintonville, and Mr. Thielke’s two brothers,
William, Oconto Falls, and James, Suring, were also present.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Thielke are active and in good health

Miss Emma Grunert, cashier in the commercial department of the Wisconsin Telephone company here, was awarded a 25 year service emblem in August.  Miss Grunert entered the service August 9, 1912
 

September 18, 1937 

Marinette-Sheriff Charles Quirt blamed a hit and run driver for the death early today of Agnes Armstrong, 27, of Oconto Falls.  She was found dead on Highway 41 four miles north of Oconto by Carlton Terrill of Green Bay.

Mrs. Carrie Peck, 71, an old settler of Oconto, died Thursday, Sept. 16 at 12:30 pm in the Oconto Hospital after a fall about five days ago which broke her arm and hip.

Lena

Two recent graduates of the Lena high school here enrolled at Miss Brown’s school of Business in Milwaukee,  Miss Suzanne Marie Netzer, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Netzer, Miss Janet Meleski is the daughter of the Steve Meleskis.  Miss Netzer and Miss Meleski are both taking post graduate work.
Suring
Mrs. Clara Gerndt, Suring, entertained about 50 relatives and friends at her home for dinner and supper Sunday in honor of her mother, Mrs. Amelia Gerndt, who celebrated her 80th birthday anniversary.

Mary Margaret, five-year-old twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Witeck, Suring, received a few bad bites on her face and upper lip Saturday noon when she was bitten by a dog.

Mrs. Pauline Routheau was pleasantly surprised on Tuesday evening by her children and other relatives, the occasion being her 84th birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoffman of R.R. Coleman celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday Sept. 25.

Dr. and Mrs. F.J. Stevens left Tuesday evening for Milwaukee.  Dr. Stevens was called by the sudden death of his father Francis E. Stevens, Sr., 71.

Neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Louis Larsen Thursday afternoon to help her celebrate her 82nd birthday.

Word was received this week that Dr. and Mrs. W.C. Watkins of Oconto suffered minor injuries in an auto accident last Friday near Austin, Texas, while enroute to visit their son, Harvey, at Randolph Field, Texas, where he enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps.

J.P. Matravers this week announced the opening of a grocery store in the city with the completion of his new Triangle Mart on Congress St. near the Main St. intersection.

Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Leigh, Sr., 1503 Main St. who will complete fifty years of happy married life Wednesday, celebrated the occasion at a family gathering at their home Sunday.
