Belongia - Bellinger
A family story says that he was a river driver in the late 1840's and early 1850's near Kankakee, Illinois. One of his sons was born in Illinois around 1850 (according to census). There is a naturalization for a Moses Belonja who arrived at the Port of Green Bay in May of 1854 (declaration of intent certificate). At this time, this man is believed to be the Moses Belongia who settled in Oconto. Moses appears on the 1851 Quebec census and on the 1860 Oconto, Oconto census.
Moses died in 1891 before the first available plat of Oconto, Oconto. Moses and Jo had 11 kids. Three of the children's lines have been researched. Marie married Peter Surprenant - Surprise (my line, Holly Sprise Kobza). Mathilda married John Houde (descendant is Mike Houde) and Azarie - Isaac married Eloisa Leneau (descendant is Carol DeGeneff Saric ). I do have the names of the other siblings as well as a few bits of information about them.
