Elm Grove School
6608 Elm Grove School Road Town of Oconto Oconto County, Wisconsin District No. 6
This school building replaced an earlier, smaller building that was build in the 1880s. The second Elm Grove School was opened as a school from 1927 to 1948. The school building no longer exists having been destroyed by fire. The land is now the recycling center. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oconto County Reporter
February 23, 2011 This is a picture of the students in the "Big Room" at Elm Grove School about 1946. The school burned down a few years later and the Town of Oconto Dump and Recycling Center is now located on that spot. Pictured are, row 1: Harold Bourassa; row 2: Miss Haas, Richard Loberger, Dick Van Hulle, Bernice Trepanier and Dick Pileski; row 3: Melvin Bourassa, Barb Bourassa, John Eckes, Kenneth Bourassa and Julian Heier; row 4: Charlotte Draeger, Paul Loberger, Alton Seidl, Joanne Rickert and Elaine Ziemer. I attended all eight grades in the old Elm Grove School, including four years in Oconto High School with Paul and Alton. They are both deceased and I am the only one left. Jerry Van Hulle also was included in that group, with a few years of attending the parochial school at St. Joes. Sincerely, Charolette Ihde. |
