Pensaukee Lumber Steamer John Spies after the 1877 tornado,a little worse for wear with the whole deck housing blown off. The steamer was named after the company president. Steamers were used to take lumber from the mills on the rivers out to the waiting Great Lakes ships before the railroad. Steamers were also used to bring back logs that had floated past the mills and out into the Bay. |
