Waldemar H. Wagner, 81, Gillett, died Saturday, September 4,1999, at Community Memorial Hospital, Oconto Falls. He was born January 17, 1918, in Suring, WI, to the late Edward and Emma (Zastrow) Wagner. He moved to Gillett and graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1935. In 1939, he and the late Rudolph (Rudy) Wagner formed the Wagner Gas and Electric. Their initial endeavors were wiring houses and farms during the day and fixing radios in the evening. Later they expanded into the propane gas business. Wally was drafted into World War 11 and served as a lieutenant navigator on a C-47 troop carrier. On May 28, 1944, he married Loraine Anderson at Zion Luthern Church in Mosling, Wi. After serving in the European Theater, Wally returned to Gillette to a life-long career with his brother, Rudy, in Wagner Gas and Electric. his interests in the propane business developed into his election to the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Propane Gas Association, to which he served for a number of years. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Gillett, and served on the financial committee for numerous years. Wally was a charter member of the Gillett Lion's Club and the Gillett area Rescue Squad. He had been active in the Gillett Volunteer Fire Department and the gillett Industrial Committee. Wally's hearing was impaired during WW2 so in later years he became a member of the "State Association of Self Help for the hard of Hearing." His interest included his family, hunting, fishing, gardening, fruit growing, and traveling. Survivors include his wife Loraine, Gillett; sons, Don, Gillett; Mark and Arlene, Shillinton, PA; and Paul, Manitowac; three grandchildren, Danelle, Derek, and Daren Wagner; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Robert Schunk; sister-in-law, Marion Wagner; brother-in-law and wife, Arvid and Nancy Anderson, Roslyn,PA; sister-in-law and husband, Gloria and Martin Anderson, Ionia, MI; eight nieces and nephews. he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Debbie J. Wagner; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Anderson. Friends mat call at the Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, on Tuesday, September 7, from 4 to 9 p.m. and then at St. John's Lutheran Church, Gillett, after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
