Oconto Falls

Funeral services were held at St. Anthony's Catholic church in Oconto Falls this morning for William Lemorande, Falls fire chief and former police head, who dropped dead Tuesday afternoon during a business visit in Marinette. The Rev. F. J. Melchior officiated at the services. Burial was in the Oconto Falls cemetery.

The deceased had been a resident of the community his entire life and had been in business thre for many years. Heading the fire department as its chief, he had been one of the original members of the department when it was organized in 1907. He was at one time chief of police and also served as a deputy sheriff. He once operated a dray line in Oconto Falls and for 11 years was an agent of the Wadhams Oil Co.

He was a distributor for the Miller Brewing Co. at the time of his death. Lemorande, according to Robert L. Thompson, Marinette county coroner, who investigated the death, was found on the Fairview park premises by Adrian Bedwell, bartender, about ten minutes after he had left the Fairview park tavern. He was slumped over the steering wheel of his car. A doctor was called, but Mr. Lemorande was declared dead on his arrival. No inquest was held. Mr. Lemorande was born in Oconto on May 3, 1881. He married Miss Mary Hofbauer of this city on June 11, 1912. To this union one daughter and four sons were born, all of whom survive their father. They are, Marion, Wilbur, Robert and the twins Ralph and Leonard. A brother John and three sisters also survive.
