Walter J. Remic Jr

Walter J. Remic Jr. age 67 of Crooked Lake passed away on January 28, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Milwaukee to the late Walter Sr. and Mary (Starich) Remic on November 25, 1948. He graduated from Suring High School with the class of 1966. Wally served his country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and married Terri Pouwels on March 6, 1971. The couple later moved back to Crooked Lake where they operated Remic’s Resort. Wally owned his own business, Wally’s Auto Body for over 30 years and he formed T&R Contracting where he plowed snow for the Town of Riverview for many years. He was the Fire Chief for the Crooked Lake Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and during that time he started the annual Fish-o-Rama where he coined the phrase “Slab of Bacon, Bottle of Booze”. Wally enjoyed being an active member of the Crooked Lake Community, deer hunting with the Denker Bay Hunting Club, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Crooked Lake.

Wally is survived by his loving wife, Terri of Crooked Lake; four children, Rhonda (Kenneth) Stuart of Suring, Sherry (Pete) Mantai of Horicon, Walter III (Anna) Remic of Oconto Falls, Ryan (Tiffany) Remic of Suring; 3 Sisters: Marilyn Kastelic, Rosalie Flynn, Janet Kazik; 10 grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm. Visitation continues at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Chapel at Crooked Lake on Thursday from 11 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm with Father Leonard Evers officiating. 

Special thank you to St. Vincent Hospital, Unity Hospice, Green Bay Oncology, and their staff. Also a special thank you to Dr. DeGroot for giving Wally an extra 15 years with his family.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Crooked Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
