RITES HELD FOR W. J. MUNSERT
DIES SUNDAY IN NEENAH HOSPITAL,
BURIED AT CLINTONVILLE

William J. Munsert, 73, first mayor of Oconto Falls and city clerk for many years, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at the Theda Clark hospital in Neenah.

He had been in the hospital for two weeks, but his condition appeared to be improving. Since his retirement he had lived with a daughter in Menasha, and a son in Chicago and in Florida.

Mr. Munsert became mayor when Oconto Falls was incorporated as a city in 1919. More recently he was city clerk, serving some 13 years before he retired in 1949 because of ill health. He served as an alderman at various times, was a supervisor on the county board from the second ward, and was a member of the water and light commission and the board of education. He also was a former secretary of the hospital board.

Mr. Munsert was born in Clintonville, January 24, 1878, and graduated from high school there. He was associated with his father in the lumber business and was in the merchandise business in Regina, Wis., before coming to Oconto Falls in 1907.

After his arrival here was employed at the Union Manufacturing company, now Metzler's Coal and Lumber company, and then organized the Falls Motor company, erecting the building now occupied by Thomsen Motors. He also was associated with Fred Johnson in the Munsert-Johnson Electric Company. He later was in the insurance business. In 1950.......(rest was missing).
