Mr. Patterson had been handicapped since suffering a stroke in June of 1949, but had adjusted himself to life with curtailed activities in an admirable manner. He had not been ill, and the heart seizure which struck suddenly shortly after midnight Saturday and caused his passing shortly after he arrived at the Hospital about three o'clock, was a great shock to his family and friends.
Pat, as he was known, was born March 5, 1893 in Oconto, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Patterson. He was born in Oconto but the family moved to Oconto Falls when he was a lad. He received his education in the Falls schools. His marriage to the former Miss Ethel Horst was solemnized in Minneapolis in 1921.
Mrs. Patterson, with their five sons survive. The sons are Dr. Neil of Milwaukee, John, who is a member of the Suring High School faculty, Attorney Thomas of Madison, James of Milwaukee and Michael, currently serving in the U. S. Coast Guard stationed at Milwaukee. There is a sister, Mrs. Homer Hubbard of Libertyville, Illinois and five grandchildren who also survive.
Employed at the Falls Paper Company until its 1930 shut-down, Pat took the work as custodian of the Falls High School shortly thereafter, and worked there until his illness in 1949. The High School annual dedicated to him bespeaks the respect of the students and faculty. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge and the Holy Name Society of St. Anthony's Church.
The parish rosary was recited on Tuesday evening at the O'Neil Funeral Home where the remains had lain in state from Monday evening until the hour of the rites.
Many friends extend sincere sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
