Vernal W. Reif, 87, 527 Oconto Ave., Peshtigo died March 27, 1999 at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette.
Vernal was born December 9, 1911 at Manitowoc to the late Jerome and Josephine Reif. He married Hazel Shufelt June 5, 1937. Vernal and his brother Jerry operated J. L. Reif and Sons general store and cheese factory at County Line for 50 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First American Lutheran Church, Peshtigo Lions Club and the Oconto Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife Hazel; two daughters, Barbara (Peter) Thompson; and Beverly (James) Kain both of Peshtigo; a brother, Melvin (Jean) Reif, Saukville; a sister, Grace (Ervin) Finger, County Line; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Vernal was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Arnold, and by a granddaughter, Jody.
Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto. Funeral service was conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at First American Lutheran Church, Oconto with Rev. Richard DeBenedetto officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo.
