Viola (Rimple) Alsteen, 320 W. Maple St., Lena died Friday, June 16, 2000 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.

The daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Hallada) Rimple was born March 17,1921 in Coleman, WI. On November 19, 1940, she married Leland Alsteen at St. John Catholic Church, Coleman. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on November 19, 1999. Viola will be remembered as a good, caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an excellent Bohemian cook and was noted for her rye bread, apple slices and kolaches. A place was always set at the table for guests. Viola passed on her love for flowers, gardening, and good cooking to her family. Viola will remain in our hearts forever as we remember the wonderful moments we shared together in her life.

Survivors include her husband, Leland Alsteen; four daughters, Elaine (Larry) Dorvinen, Green Bay; Yvonne (Donald) Brault, Peshtigo; Sandra (Alvin) Strom, Oconto; Linda (David) Jacobini, Hamilton, VA and three sons, Milton Alsteen and Dean Alsteen of Little Suamico; and Cletus Alsteen, Green Lake; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Julia Mundt, Coleman; Shirley (Russell) Farley, Menomonee Falls; and Donna (Robert) Maynard, Hales Corners; sister-in-law, Virginia Edlebeck, Green Bay; brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Leona) Alsteen, Oconto Falls; Edmund (Violet) Alsteen, Lena and Ernest Alsteen, Lena; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony Alsteen; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Alsteen and Marie Johnson; and brother-in-law, Raymond Alsteen. Friends called at Rhodes- Charapata Funeral Home, Lena where a parish wake service was held. Mass of Christian Burial was hold Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Lena with Rev. Frank Schrage officiating. Inter- ment in St. Charles Cemetery, Lena.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for the American Diabetes Assoc. and the new Oconto Memorial Hospital has been established.
