Rites Wednesday For Victor JOHN

Victor H. John, 84, Gillett, died Sunday morning at 5:30 at the Oconto Falls Hospital. Death followed a brief illness.

Mr. John was born in Gillett, February 13, 1872. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. John, early Oconto county pioneers.

He was educated in the Oconto county schools and the Northern Indiana university and taught school for several years in Oconto county. he afterward learned telegraphy and was employed for 15 years by the C. & N. W. Railway Co. as operator and agent. He then became associated with several banks in Forest and Oconto county in which he worked until his retirement.

In 1897 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Cain of Oconto and they made their home in Forest county. On August 28, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. John celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. John was active in Forest county politics. He served as sheriff of Forest county and also as county treasurer. He was affiliated with the masonic lodge and order of Eastern star and served these organizations as Worshipful Master and Worthy Patron several times.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Lincoln, of Fresno, Calif., and Victor, Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, besides numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. G. H. Wohlk of Oconto is a niece. One son, Clarence, died two years ago.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Leslie Simon officiating. Masonic rites will be held by Gillett and Crandon lodges. Burial was in Wanderers Rest cemetery in Gillett. The Kuehl Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
