Pioneer of Stiles Dead

Stiles, Mar. 24 - Thomas Caldie passed away at the home of his son Thomas at Stiles about 4:00 last Monday afternoon. He had been suffering with an attack of the grip for several days but had been confined to his bed only since Saturday. He had been deprived of his rest for two or three nights and when about 3:00 Monday morning he fell asleep it was hoped that he was on his way to recovery; but he never awakened and about 4:00 breathed his last while in that condition.

The deceased was born in the village or Sorn Ayrshire, Scotland, Dec 23, 1824. He came to Stiles in 1862 after having spent three years in Ottawa, Canada, where he had met and married Miss Jane McFarlane and where one son, Edwin was born to them.

He leaves to morn his loss two sons, Thomas of Stiles and Andrew who is present working near Eldron, Marinette county, one daughter, Mrs. Williams of Milwaukee, two daughter's-in-law, Mrs. Annie Caldie of Green Bay and Mrs. Maggie Caldie of Menominee, Mich., a brother in Ottawa, sixteen grandchildren with one great-grandchild and one nephew, James McFarlane of Stiles.

The funeral will be held Thursday starting at 10:00 from the First Presbyterian church of Stiles, of which he was elected an elder at the time of its reorganization May 24, 1898, in charge of his pastor, Geo. V.R. Shepard, with internment in Evergreen cemetery, Oconto.
