A wedded life of 63 years duration was broken only a week when death took George Benninghaus, 92, on March 27 and the widow Sophie, on April 2nd. Mrs. Benninghaus was very ill when her husband died and never was aware of the fact that she was a widow. On Sunday night death released her from suffering and she and her companion of many years were reunited in that land where there is no sorrow, tears or parting.
Mrs. Benninghaus was born Sophie Kuechenmeister in Germany on May 6, 1853 and had almost attained her 86th birthday. The Benninghaus’ were married in May 63 years ago and are survived by two sons, William of Oconto falls, Allan of Two Rivers and two daughters Mrs. M. Brand of Mellon and Mrs. C. J. Kummer of Sheboygan. A brother, Henry Kuechenmeister of Wausaukon, also survives Mrs. Benninghaus. There are eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services for the aged lady were held Wednesday afternoon at the Wm. Benninghaus home, just a week later than those of her husband. The Rev. David Johnson of the Methodist Episcopal church officiated and burial took place in Woodlawn cemetery.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Benninghaus had been tenderly cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Benninghaus and their friends and neighbors commended them highly for their kindness and consideration
