HEAT PROSTRATION IS FATAL
TO MRS. JAMES SMITH, SR

Mrs. James Smith, Sr., who had attained the ripe old age of 86 on April 20th, died suddenly on Monday from the effects of the intense heat and her advanced years.

Mrs. Smith was born Miss Sylvia Hooper at Lowell, Massachusetts, and, sixteen years ago, was married to James Smith, Sr., who died about one year ago. She is survived by four step children, Harry Smith of Oconto Falls, James Smith, Jr., in the Kelly Lake neighborhood, and Ruby and Gertrude, whose married names we could not learn. She is also survived by a brother, Henry Hooper, and a sister and several nieces and nephews, all in the east.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, from the Church of Christ, at Kickory on Friday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. John Bolden, officiating. Messrs. Jos. Plexor, Fred Longaard, Peeter Ankerson, Allie and Albert McMahon and Robert Davis will bear the remains to the grave beside her husband in the Hickory cemetery.

Mrs. Smith had been a staunch Christian all of her life and for such death is but an opening of another, larger life. She won the esteem of all who knew her by her goodness of soul and her passing is mourned by many.
