Sylvia A. Markusen

April 12, 1924  -  May 5, 2016

Sylvia Markusen, age 92 of Mountain, passed away at home on Thursday, May 5, 2016 with family by her side. She was born in Nashville Township near Crandon, WI on April 12, 1924 to the late William and Ellen (Turner) Ratliff. Sylvia Ratliff married Orville Markusen on February 23, 1946 in Mountain. The couple lived and farmed in Doty Township for many years. She loved gardening, cooking, and watching and feeding the birds. She loved to entertain company, and no one left her house hungry. She was known for her delicious raised donuts. She enjoyed shopping, going out to eat and she dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #2119 of Mountain and the F.L.P. Presbyterian Church of Lakewood. 

Sylvia is survived by her 4 children, Arlie (Linda) Markusen of Lubbock, Texas, Leslie (Susan) Markusen of Mountain, Marilyn (Pete) Elbe of Mountain and Randy (Deborah) Markusen of Mountain; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Markusen of Mountain; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Orville on September 10, 1991; her son, Neil Markusen; 8 brothers and 4 sisters, and her special friend, Les Rugg. 

Visitation will be held at the Forest Larger Parish Presbyterian Church in Lakewood on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 2 pm until the funeral service at 4 pm with Reverend Lee Jennings officiating. Sylvia will be interred in Mountain Cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
